Nikon Coolpix S3000 (Green)

Editors' note: Many of the design, features, and shooting options are identical between the Nikon Coolpix S3000 and the Coolpix S4000 we reviewed earlier, so readers of the earlier review may experience some déjà vu when reading the same sections below.

Very small, lightweight; easy to operate; inexpensive.

Inconsistent autofocus; poor low-light photos.

The Nikon Coolpix S3000 is an attractive inexpensive ultracompact that's a step above your average camera phone.

Nikon Coolpix S3000 review

Not everyone's a camera geek. Unless you're cavorting around with a DSLR, most people simply want a camera that can take decent photos (translation: it doesn't look like it came from a cellphone) without bulking up their bags or purses.

Fast, slim and light ; Very reasonably priced ; Mom-friendly

Only the basics – photo geeks should look elsewhere ; Nothing particularly compelling vs the competition ; Image quality suffers in the high ISO range

In the end, I’d say that the Coolpix S3000 is an excellent all-arounder. If you want a camera that you can keep in your bag 24/7 and which you can whip out in a flash, without it looking like a cheap plastic contraption, then this is a terrific choice....

Coolpix S3000

For many years now, the trend on this website has been to review the more expensive, cutting-edge cameras. Not only do those cameras capture my interest -- they are what the majority of DCRP readers are curious about, as well. Recently, I was reminded...

Nikon Coolpix S3000

The Nikon Coolpix S3000 is a 12-megapixel, ultra-compact camera. The S3000 is quite a basic point and shoot camera that's really just a step or so up from the bottom-end Nikon L22. The S3000 has a decent 4x optical zoom, equivalent to a 27-108mm zoom...

To sum it up, the S3000 is a user-friendly entry-level camera. It’s ultra-compact, which means it can go with you anywhere. The downside of the Nikon S3000 is that it just isn’t up to snuff on image quality. Unfortunately, the S3000 appears to suffer...

Nikon COOLPIX S3000

The Nikon COOLPIX S3000 is a 12 Megapixel compact with a 4x optical zoom and 2.7in screen. Launched in February 2010 it supersedes the popular COOLPIX S220, adding 2 Megapixels to the resolution, a bigger screen and extending the zoom mostly at the...

4x zoom with good wide angle coverage ; Excellent image quality ; Small, light, eye-catching design

No optical image stabilisation ; Poor quality at high ISO settings ; Narrow viewing angle on-screen ; Modest closest focusing distance

The Nikon COOPIX S3000 is a quality point-and-shoot compact that will appeal to those who want a capable camera that offers some control over exposure (in the form of manual ISO sensitivity settings) but are more concerned about getting good quality...

"Best Value for money paid"

I've had an S3000 which I broke, then I bought another one just like it. Why? because I've used a lot of pocket cameras from different brands , but this one is the best you can get with a budget below $150. I disagree with some users who gave this...

Small, smooth, good picture quality relatively to small budget

Don't you ever drop it ! very fragile even if it falls 1 foot from the floor.

This camera sucks!

Don't buy this unless you have the money to buy another one 6 months later!

It takes good pics during the day

I bought this camera with hopes that it would be a good camera to take pics of my kids. Well it wasn't. I had to replace the battery after about 2 weeks because the one it came with wouldn't charge. I thought no big deal. It'll be worth it. 6 months later
