Nikon Coolpix S51 Compact Digital Camera

Above-average image sharpness, but overall image quality was a bit below average. Battery life was poor in our tests.

Very thin ; Large LCD

Tiny buttons for zoom and other controls ; Slow to lock focus in low light

At first glance, the Coolpix S51 looks like an appealing package--especially at $280. But based mostly on its overall usability, I'd give it a pass

Shirt-pocket thin, covered in black and chrome, and sporting a huge 3-inch LCD on the back, the $250 (at time of review) Nikon Coolpix S51 exudes chic. This point-and-shoot model has nearly all the ingredients you're likely to look for in a quality...

The Coolpix S51 finds itself amongst some tough competition in the ultra-compact arena. How does it perform? Find out now in our review

Good photo quality; better-than-average at ISO 400 and 800 ; Good value for the money ; Compact metal body ; Optical image stabilization ; Huge, fairly sharp 3-inch LCD display ; Plenty of scene modes to choose from ; Handy D-Lighting and Best Shot...

Photos tend to be soft, with too much noise reduction ; Redeye a problem, despite countermeasures ; Poor battery life ; Very slow focusing speeds at telephoto end of lens, or in low light ; Sluggish in many other areas: user interface, continuous...

All things considered, the Coolpix S51 is an inexpensive, but mediocre camera. It has a few nice features, and generally good image quality, but its overall sluggishness and crummy battery life left me feeling a bit cold. It's worth looking at if...

Jusy picked this up for an amazing $150 at Bset Buy and for a pocket point and shoot it serves me well! I have a D80 that I use for serious photography but for a quick "gotta get it" opportunity this camera meet my expectations. Is it the best camera...

No real problems, most users just want to take the camera out of the box and click away getting perfect results however all photography taeks time to learn the tool you are using as well as it might take many shots to get the right one, think about it...

Owners Opinion: Nikon Coolpix S51 (Danny B, 2 Jan 08)

I bought the CoolPix S51 a few days ago because I needed a compact camera for sneak shots and video. I normally shoot RAW files with high end digital SLRs. I've been getting great sharp photos from this camera so far in my test (set at the highest...

I have to agree with prob, I bought this camera for my wife to replace a Fuji Finepix S5000. I thought the idea of having a camera that would fit in her purse would be great. Not so, the images were not at all what I expected from Nikon. I felt he...
