Nikon CoolPix S550 Review at Trusted Reviews

The CoolPix S550 is a likeable little camera, very simple to operate and producing good results in most normal situations. It is solidly made and sensibly designed, and has very good handling despite its small size.

Nikon Coolpix S550

The Nikon Coolpix S550 elegantly packs advanced functions and high performance into an ultra-compact body. The Coolpix S550 boasts 10 megapixels of sharp resolution, a 5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens, and Electronic Vibration Reduction (VR) Image Stabilization and...

The COOLPIX S550 will be available in an array of new colors - plum, cool blue and graphite black - allowing consumers to not only express themselves with their photos, but with their cameras as well.

When Nikon revealed its Fall 2007 lineup, something was missing: a 10-megapixel camera. The S-Series models jumped from 8 (S510) to 12 megapixel (S700). This oversight has now been addressed with not one but two new 10-megapixel cameras, the S550 and...

5X optical zoom, 10 megapixel resolution, Very good sunlight-visible hi-res 2.5 inch screen with wide viewing angle, Elegant design with brushed metal body in three colors, Small, light and handy, Advanced face recognition mode with smile and blink...

No optical anti-blur

There are also two new modes: Smile and Blink Warning. In smile mode, the camera can actually tell a smile and will wait to shoot the picture until it detects one. Blink warning actually displays a warning message when, in the camera's opinion, the...

Incredibly disappointing

I bought this as a supplement to my SLR thinking it would be good to have something lightweight and easier to carry around. Took it on a trip to Ireland and ended up with maybe 20 good photos out of 400. Every photo turned out blurry. No matter how...

small, compact and light

Takes terrible photos

Consumer review by:

Never again am I buying a digital camera from Nikon.

Some outdoor pictures turn out decent because its zoom and depth of field is decent, and the pictures on the camera look a ton better than on the computer. When pulled up on a computer screen, pictures seem very blurry, not in focus, and extremely dull...

Small and compact, easy to transport ; Nice big screen ; Functions are easy to use and understand

Pictures come out very blurry ; Inside pictures are extremely horrible and noisy without flash on ; Lens is easily scratched ; Pictures lack colors ; Audibly noisy when zooming ; Paint scratches off the camera body and buttons

Nikon Coolpix S550

I made a mistake buying this camera for everyday use. If you are planning to take picture anytime when it's less than full daylight, stay away from this camera. For example, concerts, night clubs, bars, at dusk/dawn. Terrible quality and during the...

slow start up ; poor image, day and night ; low quality for the money you pay

Worst Digital Camera I've Owned

I bought this camera after having good experiences with 35mm Nikon cameras. I've owned a Minolta digital camera and a Canon digital camera, both which are leaps and bounds bettter than this camera. The first s550 I had BROKE IN 2 WEEKS. The lense got...

CAN take really good pictures if you know how to use it

Do count on handing your camera to someone else and getting a good shot ; Battery life is horrible ; LENS ERROR

A great camera for the price

I like the camera but would like to see a little better battery life than what I get after 1.5 years of ownership. I guess I'll just have to buy a second battery so I don't miss any special moment's in my kid's lifes. Like I said, the quality of the...

I really like this light weight and easy to use Nikon. I can quickly turn it on and capture pix in a moment's notice. Fits into my pocket easily and pic quality is outstanding

I don't like that when you're using the video feature that you can't zoom in/out very easily. It seems that you have to "pre-zoom" to the subject matter before you start video taping and that' s annoying especially with a moving subject matter

Affordable Point and shoot

Theres bettere cameras out there. Do your homework. I bought this when it was brand new. I do regret the purchase. But overall its a decent camera for someone who only does point and shoot. But between the dust behind the screen the chrome chipping off...

High resolution. Accepts HDSD memory cards. Decent video quality for a point and shoot. External casing is pretty durable

Slow response time. Not any faster than my retired olympus D595. Dust behind the screen and nikon support not willing to repair under warranty. Below expectation picture quality in Auto modes. Manual modes bring much more quality

Nikon Coolpix S550

Got it yesterday as a b-day present for my sister. Chose Nikon because already have Canon EOS D20 and Panasonic DMC FZ30. This is our first ultra compact experience. Design is great, slick and comfortable. I was amassed by simplicity and comfort of...

but ... when the camera locking on target it makes annoying clicks. May be i am spoiled but i didn't like it ; ISO higher then 200 gives horrible noise ; NEVER use automatic ISO indoors!!!! Camera cranks it all the way up to the end and pictures come...
