Nikon Coolpix S9500

Nikon's Coolpix S9500 is a fully loaded pocket camera with a huge zoom range and a sharp lens, but it doesn't quite edge out our Editors' Choice.

Very sharp lens. 22x zoom range. Short shutter lag. Wi-Fi and GPS. Sharp OLED display

Detail suffers at high ISO settings. No manual shooting modes. Off-center tripod socket. In-camera battery charging

The Nikon Coolpix S9500 ($349.95 direct) is a pocket-size digital camera that manages to squeeze an 18-megapixel image sensor, a GPS radio, Wi-Fi, and a long 22x lens into a slim form factor. It's a stylish design that can snap sharp photos in...

Nikon Coolpix S9500 (Black)

The Nikon Coolpix S9500 might not be a standout in the compact megazoom category, but it's not an also-ran, either.

The well-priced Nikon Coolpix S9500 has an impressive zoom range for its size and weight. It has a full assortment of automatic shooting options and can capture HD movies as well as slow-motion clips. Built-in Wi-Fi allows you to directly send photos...

Picture quality drops off indoors or in low-light conditions. Autofocus can be finicky under those conditions as well as when fully zoomed in. If semimanual and manual controls are a necessity you're out of luck, and its flash is poorly placed.

With its long lens and compact size, plus extras like built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, the Nikon Coolpix S9500 is a very good point-and-shoot travel companion.

Nikon Coolpix S9500 Review

The Nikon Coolpix S9500 digital camera provides a very odd configuration of features in today's marketplace. The S9500 produces good quality images, offers a large optical zoom measurement, and includes both GPS and Wi-Fi capabilities, all in a thin...

Large 22x optical zoom lens in a thin camera is a great feature ; Image quality is good with sharp photos and realistic colors ; 18MP of resolution is available ; Plenty of aspect ratio and resolution options ; Start-up time is very fast ; Almost no...

No advanced manual control options ; Very limited shooting modes ; Uses small 1/2.3-inch image sensor ; Menu structure is a little tough to navigate ; Selections included on mode dial are odd ; Battery life should be better ; No separate battery...

Nikon Coolpix S9500

Nikon's latest travel zoom doesn't stun with specs, but it's available at a nice price.

For all the faults, annoyances, and shortcomings of the Nikon Coolpix S9500, it's actually not a bad bet for a point-and-shoot. At a $349.95 sticker price, it doesn't quite deliver all that we had hoped. However, cameras like this tend to drop in price...

"What a disappointment"

I have owned one for 6 months and I have had to send the camera in for repairs twice. The first time the camera was sent to Nikon for repair of the pop-up flash, Nikon denied that the camera was under warranty. After contacting Nikon corporate, Nikon...

Loaded with features. The wifi is useable.

This camera is extremely fragile.

"Fantastic camera at a great price. Nikon rocks again."

Just about everything Perfect. First is the grip and solid body. It has the feel of a standard SLR but yet small. I just love the lens and quick auto focus. So far, the battery life is very good. The sensors render amazing colors and clearity.

Trying to find a con.... Maybe wish it had the touch screen option but hey.... Can't complain I love it just the way it is.

Nikon COOLPIX S9500

I use this entirely outside to take pictures of still objects for work. Sometimes I have to use it at night; when I do, the flash seems well tuned and not overly aggressive.

Boss bought it for me ; Very good zoom ; Flashes when needed ; Battery seemed to last for ages ; Intuitive focus mechanism

Seems pricey, but again, the bossman bought it for me ; I'm no camera buff, but it did seem like there were some manual controls that I would enjoy using. Maybe I can't find them. If that's the case, then the con is unintuitive menu navigation

Lackluster Preformance

Excellent zoom, good battery life

Very slow processing the image capture. The low light sensor only works well for still images. Because the camera has the low light sensor it tries to not use the flash even when needed
