Olympus C-3000 Zoom Digital Camera Review: Intro and Highlights

With one of the broadest digicam lineups in the industry, Olympus is a traditional camera manufacturer who's successfully making the transition to the digital era. A little over a year ago (this is being written in May, 2000) they introduced one of the...

Just got this camera off Ebay for only $20.00 and that included a 64MB card. The cards alone are selling at a premium price, so I might part with this camera and resell ir using better marketing techniques and make a big profit. So far it's been good to...

Olympus C-3000 Zoom

Well, I bought this camera in July 2001, I've since owned 3 other digicams and the C-3000 still gives the best image. The colours are natural, noise is minimal in most situations. The focusing is excellent too. There are manual options when you need...

The only drawback now is that SmartMedia cards are no longer available.

Worst thing i ever did was give my c-3000 away. To Date; i have not found a non-SLR that even comes close. If you have one KEEP IT! It does great 8x10s and you will never been happy with photos from another camera even with a higher pixel-count.

If you want rechargable batts you will have to get Rechargable AAs. They also make a single lithium batt for it which last a long time but again is not rechargable

Well after 6 years of use it's still ticking along. I've got a Canon DSLR and and Olympus 8080...but if you process the pics from this little 3.3mp camera right, for net use and for up to 8x10's it's excellent. Never regretted buying it (although at...

The LCD is unusable in bright sun and the viewfinder isn't great (usable) SM cards are getting hard to find...and somewhat expensive. Some purple finginging (more than some in certain cases)

battery drain, a small price to pay, just get some more rechargables with all the money you save

Product Specifications

Offering treble megapixel CCD performance and sophisticated photographic functions at an attractive price, the new C-3000ZOOM from Olympus places staggeringly high-resolution images within the reach of a larger number of people. Of course, a powerful CCD is just part of the story. This new digital compact zoom also incorporates a precision 3x zoom lens plus a selection of accurate metering options and creative functions that go far beyond the capabilities of the traditional camera, such as movie and sound recording. The lower price in comparison with its "big sister", the C-3030ZOOM, has been achieved by slightly reducing the buffer memory and movie recording times as well as trimming some of the accessories that would otherwise be supplied with the camera. Nevertheless, the C-3000ZOOM has lost nothing in regard to image quality and delivers amazingly sharp shots with fantastic colors at a resolution of 3.34 million pixels. To ensure optimum results and ease of use, the CAMEDIA C-3000ZOOM offers a range of metering systems and automatic modes. Measurements for both the focus and white balance are taken Through The Lens (TTL) while either ESP (Electro Selective Pattern) or spot metering are on hand to assess exposure requirements. Additionally, by shooting a series of shots at different settings, the auto-bracketing function helps find the optimum exposure in tricky lighting conditions. However, the photographer may also wish to set the camera manually to attain individual results. In this case, focus, exposure, white balance and sensitivity are all individually adjustable. Further creative input is made possible thanks to the picture effects. By shooting in black & white or the yellow-brown tones of sepia, a completely different feeling can be imparted to the image. For capturing text in perfect clarity, the blackboard and whiteboard functions may also be selected. In sequence mode the camera can shoot at 1.2 - 1.8 frames a second and resets the AF for each exposure. This guarantees all the action is frozen in breathtaking clarity. The movie recording option, on the other hand, enables just the opposite. Recording at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, the C-3000ZOOM can capture 30 seconds of motion at 12.5 frames/sec. with a 16 MB SmartMedia card. (At 160 x 120 pixels, up to 120 sec. is possible). As a further benefit, this CAMEDIA model enables sound to be recorded with movie sequences. Moreover, four seconds of audio may be saved with a still shot. Ideally suited to the large file sizes generated by this three megapixel model, a USB interface permits the fast and trouble-free downloading of files from the camera. The attractive price of the smart black and dark metallic gray C-3000ZOOM makes it the first choice to discover the possibilities of high-resolution digital photography. Due to its user-friendly operation and wide-selection of manually adjustable functions, the new Olympus compact zoom is perfect for both the newcomer as well as the more ambitious photographer.
