Olympus C-5050 Digital Camera Camera Review - PCWorld

A powerful challenger to Nikon's Coolpix 5000, the Olympus C-5050 should be a top choice for advanced photographers. It takes great photos, is easier to use than its rival, and earned a Best Buy when it debuted on our Top 10 chart.

Olympus C-5050 Zoom

On August 19th (approximately a month before Photokina 2002) Olympus announced their new five megapixel, three times optical zoom prosumer level digital camera the C-5050 Zoom. This camera is one of the first to utilize a 1/1.8" (7.18 x 5.32 mm) 5...

Superb resolution, especially considering smaller sensor and same lens as older cameras ; Generally good metering, tonal balance will be too contrasty for some but easy to change ; Color balance good, nice greens and natural skin tones, red blow outs...

Chromatic aberrations visible in strong contrast shots ; Red overexposure color shift in direct sunlight ; Jagged diagonals / demosaic artifacts sometimes visible ; Color clipped to grey at the highest contrast setting ; RAW format is welcome but not...

The C-5050 Zoom is a first of a kind, it's one of the first prosumer level digital cameras to utilize the new 1/1.8" five megapixel CCD, and to do so with a lens originally designed for lower resolution digital cameras. Credit then where it is due, the...

The only real downsides are the limited ISO settings, with noise apparent at ISO 200 and 400, and some chromatic aberrations in high contrast shots. Most of the other downsides to the camera...

Olympus Camedia C5050 Zoom

It's important to first lock in focus before capturing moments such as this one of my friends' 2-year-old daughter blowing out her birthday candles.

Olympus C-5050 Zoom

Always wondered what the 5050 was like, particularly after reading about pro PJ Alex Majoli using them a few years ago. Seeing the prices on ebay I couldn't resist getting one. Although slow to start up (3 or 4 secs) and takes 4 secs to write raw...

When batteries changed it loses some custom settings, I understand this is because the internal battery or capacitor designed to retain this info will no longer hold a charge due to it's age. Not a big deal.
