Olympus Camedia C-5500 Sport Zoom

Megapixels: 5.1, Included Memory Amount: 16 MB, Included Memory: Media Card, Media Format: xD-Picture Card, Maximum...

5X optical zoom. Good picture quality.

A bit big for a true compact. Boot-up speed should be quicker.

The 5.1-megapixel Olympus C-550 is a decent buy, with a long zoom and clean image quality. We just wish it were a bit smaller and faster.

Olympus C-5500 Sport Zoom Point-and-Shoot

While putting the boxy and hefty Olympus C-5500 Sport Zoom through its paces, I found much to like about its design. The sizable grip feels comfortable, and the positioning of the buttons and camera navigation wheel allowed me to use the camera...

Accurate exposures Long zoom range

Flash doesn't pop up automatically Auto focusing can be slow

With a 5X optical zoom that offers the equivalent of a 38mm-to-190mm lens--a generous reach for a camera in this class--a movie mode with image stabilization, and an impressive number of manual controls, the C-5500 does little to box you in creatively....

Olympus C-5500 Sport Zoom

Impressive image quality helps this model make its mark, despite some limitations.

Lots of manual controls and great image quality are offset by the C-5500's sluggish response time.

Accurate exposures ; Long zoom range

Accurate colors, exposures, and long zoom range are this model's strengths. Autofocus locks well on moving subjects.

Olympus Camedia C-5500 Digital Camera Review

The Olympus C-5500 made its way to shelves in February, following its unveiling the previous month at the extravagant Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The C-5500 is quite versatile for its $349.99 price tag. It packs 5.1 effective megapixels on...

-cool features like live histograms and pixel mapping -easy to set manual white balance -image stabilization

-shaky digital zoom in movie mode -disappointing burst mode -illogical menus with some vague icons

The Olympus C-5500 has a full automatic mode, both Shutter and Aperture Priority modes, 11 scene modes, and a manual mode. These provide a versatile range of shooting options for both beginning and intermediate users. Beginners who purchase this camera...

Olympus C-5500 Sport

Continuing the tradition of previous Camedia C-Series digicams, Olympus has released the C-5500 Sport Zoom - a model rather reminiscent of the C-7000 Zoom, but with a somewhat larger, heavier plastic body and somewhat pared-down feature set at a...

Compact size, Solid build, In-camera image stabilization makes all lenses better for low light shooting, Same sensor as 7D, Kit lens covers 18-70mm 35mm equivalent range, Very good to excellent low-light capability, Excellent battery life, Decent...

Proprietary hot shoe, No PC sync port, No video recording (a fact of life with SLRs), Hand grip may be uncomfortably small for some users, Image noise slightly high at ISO 1600, RAW+JPEG option only saves fine-mode JPEGs. (But that's not a bad...

The Olympus 5500 Sport Zoom offers a wide range of user controls, including a one-touch white balance function (with a very useful white balance adjustment feature for minor color tweaks), manual focus mode, selectable autofocus and metering area,...

How did the C-5500 perform in our tests? Find out now in our review

Good value: 5MP, 5X zoom for around $320 ; Very good photo quality, though I'd bump up the saturation ; Full manual controls ; Larger-than-average LCD gains up in low light ; Not one, but two live histograms ; Nice macro mode ; AF-assist lamp ; Can...

Colors seem a little dull to me ; Outdated movie mode ; Crummy continuous shooting mode, especially given the name of the camera ; Camera performance lags in several areas (see conclusion) ; Cheap plastic door over memory card slot; pop-up flash gets...

If you're looking for a low-cost camera with lots of manual controls, a little extra zoom, and nice image quality then I recommend the C-5500 Sport Zoom. If you want something stylish, fast, and "sporty", you should probably look elsewhere.

Olympus C-5500 Zoom

Easy-to-use 5.1-megapixel digicam has room to grow

Easy to use, plenty of features and settings for photographers of all skill levels, 2" LCD screen, PictBridgecompatible.

Slightly bulky, does not include rechargeable battery, slow autofocus and shutter lag.

At least a 256 MB xD card.
