A little higher up the price scale than the FE-45, the FE-5000 immediately feels like a much better put-together proposition. Its metal body is solid and cool to the touch, and the dumpy looks of the FE-45 are replaced with something a good deal sleeker.

Olympus redeems itself with this model, but it's still only average.

The Olympus FE-5000 is one of the cheaper digital cameras. It offers 5x zoom. This is a shade more than more basic models. This review looks at picture quality, general features and where to find the best deal.

Ease of use - price for a small, compact camera

Photos could be sharper - slow turn on time

Some of my outdoor test shots lacked sharpness. This knocks down the total score for the camera. It is still a reasonable camera in its price range, but you should be able to find better overall picture quality for around the same price.

I bought this model because I had used an Olympus in the past. I don't know much about cameras but I think my last one (unfortunately it's broken) worked better and took better pictures.

Fantastic Camera

 

Fantastic Camera

This is a lovely camera, easy to use. Just Point and press and it does all the work for you. If you want to play with the settings, that's easy to do too. Light and easy to carry around it packs a great zoom which extends out when you turn the camera on.

This takes excellent photos in most conditions; great optical zoom, digital zoom's not bad either. Only has a couple of modes and although the macro and supermacro is great, there's no sports mode and it is very slow to 'reset' to be able to take...
