Olympus Stylus 500 Digital Camera Review

The Olympus Stylus 500, also known as the µ Digital 500 in Europe, comes to the market with a 5-megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD and a TruePic Turbo image processor. This digital camera is very much built for the point-and-shoot audience with minimal manual...

-Abundance of scene modes -Nice 2.5-inch LCD -All-weather body -Good solid feel -Fisheye and other picture effects -Calendar playback function

-Advanced manual available on CD-ROM only -Non-intuitive album function -Small buttons -Weak flash -Mundane exterior body -Poor audio in movie mode

The Olympus Stylus 500 enters into the highly-sought area of the digital camera market, offering a 5 megapixel 1/2.5" CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom lens, and 2.5-inch LCD screen. The Stylus 500 may have trouble competing, depending on how flexible its...

Olympus Stylus 500

Big, bright 2.5-inch LCD ; Very sharp images

No manual focus ; No advanced exposure controls

Big, bright LCD is easy to use even in direct sunlight, but some text exposures were dark and colors seemed cold.

Olympus Stylus Digital 500

The Stylus 500 is the third generation of Olympus' series of premium point-and-shoot digital cameras. The Stylus 500 features an impressive 2.5-inch HyperCrystal(tm) LCD that is as bright as it is big, 5.0-megapixels of image resolution, and a compact,

Bottom line - we were pleased with the Stylus 500. If offers versatility with its weather resistance and multitude of exposure modes. With a street price of only $399, it offers an excellent value. With 5-megapixels you have plenty of resolution to play w

Digital Cameras - Olympus Stylus 500 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

As the latest in that company's "Stylus" line of compact digital cameras, the 5-megapixel, 3x-zoom Olympus Stylus 500 Digital is to my mind the best Stylus Digital model to date. Its body design is trim and compact, with much better-feeling controls...

Water-resistant design, Good resolution, sharp images for a compact model, Good/pleasing color (slight tendency toward reddish casts), Auto white balance does better than average with household incandescent lighting., Excellent close-focusing for macro...

Slightly high contrast (But pretty good highlight detail), Somewhat pinkish skin tones, No optical viewfinder, LCD viewfinder poor for low light framing, Rather weak flash, High image noise at ISO 400, No shutter/aperture info displayed, in either...

The Olympus Stylus 500 Digital updates this very popular line of cameras with a large, 2.5-inch LCD monitor that's surprisingly readable even in full sunlight, and a break from the traditional clamshell lens cover design that trademarked many previous...

What's in the Box

Stylish, compact, and weatherproof metal body ; Good all-around performance, excellent startup speed ; Large LCD display is usable outdoors and in low light ; Plenty of scene modes ; Live histogram in record mode ; Optional underwater case ; Cool...

Soft photos with fuzzy details ; Redeye ; No optical viewfinder or AF-assist lamp ; Plastic door over battery/memory card slots too easy to open accidentally ; Some manual controls would've been nice ; Unexciting movie mode ; Full manual only on CD

Overall, I like a lot of things about the Stylus 500 -- I just wish the photos were better. If you want a smaller camera that doesn't mind getting a little wet, it's worth checking out.

Olympus Stylus 500 Digital

Before Olympus released the first megapixel consumer digital camera in 1997, their Stylus line of elegant, point-and-shoot film cameras essentially owned the market. There were plenty of other pocketsize 35mm cameras from every maker, bit none enjoyed...

Okay, so the new Stylus looks better than the old one. How does it perform? I'm please to report the 500 is not only better than any previous Stylus digital, it is better than any previous Olympus compact digital camera. Like the competition, Olympus...

Owners Opinion: Olympus Stylus 500 (cyclingspongecake, 10 Aug 06)

This is my second camera, the first being a fuji s304 which took fantastic quality photo's but was a bit slow. In comparison, I'm not impressed with the mju 500 :- 1) no viewfinder - makes photo subject very difficult to see on bright days, you end...

I think this is a great camera for anyone looking for something for general purposes. I took it on a snowmobile trip in the mountains of Alaska and used it for 9 days with out running out of battery. Also used it in temperatures of 20 degrees below...

Weather-resistant, Long battery life, Easy to view pics. on the LCD screen after taken

Sometimes hard to see the screen with sunlight on it

Olympus Stylus 500

I owned this camera for about 4 months before I lost it. The overall picture quality is good for outdoor. In low lighting, it does not focus well. The LCD drains the battery quickly. You should consider having a extra battery handy. The package...

High resolution 2.5 LCD, all weather design

Flimsy body, picture quality is not good in low lighting, short battery life, no date imprint. No manual control
