Olympus SP-310

Weighing just more than eight ounces with two AA batteries and an xD-Picture card installed, the Olympus SP-310/320 is too bulky to call a pocket camera, but it doesn't take up much room in a purse, and it'll ride just fine holstered to your belt in an...

Lots of shooting features; smart online help; supports raw format; runs on AA-size batteries.

Artifacts in photos; significant shutter lag in dim conditions.

The Olympus SP-320 and the Olympus SP-310 are compact, feature-rich cameras that are nevertheless outclassed by competitors' speed and photo quality.

Olympus SP-310

For 2005 Olympus has announced a new SP-series of digital cameras, the 7.0-megapixel SP-310 and the 8.0-megapixel SP-350 introduce specialized features that enable photographers of all skill levels to express their creative vision. Both cameras feature a

Bottom line - just like the SP-350, the Olympus SP-310 was disappointing. When we first saw the specs of this model, it looked very appealing. And we loved its ergonomics, image quality, and versatile exposure modes. However the poor shooting performance

At the end of August 2005 Olympus added two more cameras to its 'SP' range of 'creative compacts'; the 8 megapixel SP-350 and the model reviewed here, the 7 megapixel SP-310. The SP-310 - on paper at least - offers a compelling mix of point-and-shoot...

Bright, vivid and sharp results ; Low noise at low ISO settings, still fairly low at ISO 400 ; Comprehensive photographic controls ; Rugged, lightweight construction and excellent handling ; Lots of scene/subject modes ; Huge range of advanced features...

Images a touch over-sharpened ; Occasional white balance problems in scenes with one predominant color ; Some smearing of low contrast detail (such as foliage and hair) - no worse than most competitors ; Mild exposure problems in high contrast / bright...

The SP-310 is perhaps a camera that deserves more attention than it has so far received - it offers a comprehensive feature set at a remarkably low price in an easy to use and well put together package. Yes, the JPEG output suffers from the same...

Olympus SP-310

The 7.1-megapixel, 3x-zoom Olympus SP-310 is an excellent performer where it counts: printed image quality. It has a wealth of features in a surprisingly compact body; and though it's not the most attractive design (in our eyes, anyway) you'll start to li

When you first see the product shots of the Olympus SP-310, it's not impressive. Its big grip on the right really looks silly, especially in the front shot. Holding and using the camera, however, gives a very different impression

"Has been a great camera for about 5 years now!"

Takes great low light photos, exceptional battery life, clear and precise focus, ability to do some things manually

Slow to shoot (especially in low light conditions), motion shots are nearly impossible to catch unless you anticipate perfectly.

Olympus SP-310

I love this little camera, I wish that Olympus still carried a camera similar to this along with the Stylus line. My only regret is not buying the SP 350 instead of the SP 310. Having the hotshoe would be great to use with my FL36 flash.

Original problems with the battery life, but that was corrected in a firmware upgrade

"Poor Quality"

I purchased this camera for my wife to replace an aging Canon 3 megapixel camera that she had. The new Olympus took very nice pictures, a total of 152 pictures and then the little orange and green light started flashing and new batteries or anything...
