Olympus Stylus 820 Compact Digital Camera

This camera is only water-resistant, unlike Olympus's dunkable Stylus SW models, and its buttons emphasize style over function.

Water resistant ; Extra-long zoom (5X)

Marginal battery life ; Buttons are very shiny and very slippery

The Stylus 820 is flashy, but if you're going to pay for its weatherproof features, you might as well opt for one of the Stylus SW models and get true protection from the elements

Olympus Stylus 820

The compact Olympus Stylus 820 (about $250, list) seems like an odd duck in Olympus's digital camera lineup--and a duck out of water. It's water-resistant, meaning that it'll survive raindrops and occasional splashes, but if you accidentally drop this...

Olympus Stylus 820 review

Olympus continues the Stylus line of digital cameras with the Stylus 820, an attractive 8-megapixel digital camera. This new model sports a 5x lens, a large, bright LCD screen, and a surprisingly useful new feature Olympus is debuting with its current...

Sleek metal body; Perfect Shot Preview is a surprisingly useful feature.

Painfully slow shot-to-shot time; overly soft pictures, especially at higher ISO settings.

It looks good and its features are nice, but the Olympus Stylus 820's photos and performance simply aren't up to snuff.

Olympus Stylus Digital 820

The Stylus 820 and 1200 feature a 2.7-inch HyperCrystal LCD, which is great for easily composing, editing and sharing images with friends and family. Additionally, capturing breathtaking landscapes is a snap with the in-camera panorama mode. Both...

Stylus digital cameras are renowned for their high performance, style and ability to withstand the elements. All three models feature light-weight metal bodies with rubber gaskets throughout the interior to ensure that rain, sleet and snow will not get...

Olympus Stylus 820 Digital Camera - Express Review - The Imaging Resource!

With its all-weather construction, large 2.7-inch LCD monitor, and 5x optical zoom lens, the Stylus 820 is another attractive offering from Olympus. The Stylus line of digital cameras has been a popular one, thanks to very small, portable camera sizes...

Small, compact size ; Weather-proof body style ; Good selection of useful preset shooting modes ; Very good color ; Digital Image Stabilization ; Face Detection helps with focus and exposure on portraits ; Large 2.7-inch LCD is usable in very bright...

Slow timing for most uses ; Image noise high at ISO 400 and up ; at 3,200 images are almost unusable ; Anti-noise processing trades away some subtle subject detail at all ISO levels ; Very high contrast under harsh lighting, loss of highlight detail ;...

The 5x optical zoom lens is another welcome feature, offering a zoom range equivalent to 36-180mm on a 35mm camera. Like many current Olympus models, the Stylus 820 has a digital zoom option available, as well as Olympus' Fine Zoom, which really just...

Longer zoom, bigger screen, still compact

The ultra-compact 820 is a nice addition to the Stylus line. You get an attractive, handy 8-megapixel point & shoot camera that comes in a variety of cool colors. It costs $50 more than Olympus's own new FE-280 and justifies that with a larger display,...

5X optical zoom, Bright hi-res 2.7-inch LCD with backlight boost, 640 x 480 movies at a full 30 fps, Advanced face detection mode, Weatherproof body, Digital image stabilization, 48MB onboard memory, PreSet Shooting Mode lets you select best setting

No voice recording mode, xD-Picture card harder to fnd and more expensive, No underwater modes

Stylus 820

In the Summer of 2007, Olympus introduced a series of new models in its "Stylus" lineup of design and performance oriented cameras. Style and performance has, of course, become somewhat relative today as even low end cameras offer high resolution in...

The "smile" mode is interesting. When the camera detects a smiling face in shooting standby mode, it takes three frames in high-speed sequential shooting automatically (or you can do it manually). While this mode is selected, the self-timer lamp...

Olympus's MJU 820 doesn't capture brilliant pictures, but its combination of a stylish and sturdy design along with some nifty features and funky guide mode make it a reasonable happy-snap camera for novice users.

Beautiful design, splash proof, fast burst mode, cool panorama feature

Soft pictures, white balance presets aren't entirely accurate, slow shot-to-shot time
