Olympus Tough TG-2 iHS review

The Olympus Stylus TG-2 iHS ($380) is the latest flagship in Olympus' rugged series of cameras, taking over from the TG-1 (in fact, the two cameras are similar in looks, with noticeable difference in body color). Packed into this point-and-shoot are a...

Solid yet light design ; Very good performance ; Fast, quality lens

Some issues with water tightness ; Audible lens movement noise when shooting video

The Olympus Tough TG-2 is a solidly built camera that is worth a look if you take a lot of active vacations, but issues with water intrusion gives us pause.

Olympus TG-2 iHS Review

Olympus's Stylus TG-2 is their new leader in the "tough" or "lifeproof" camera category. Sporting a 12-Megapixel CMOS and powerful processor, this camera will also perform as well just about any other compact digicam. Add its stylish and very...

No external battery charger to keep a spare ready ; Buffer on camera fills quickly ; Overwhelming noise at higher ISO settings ; Screen can be hard to see underwater ; Higher end price wise for a tough camera

Olympus Tough TG-2 iHS

This is the second in a series of short underwater/rugged camera reviews on DPReview. We're testing the cameras concurrently, and once all six cameras have been reviewed, we'll publish a roundup of the class, comparing them directly.

The Olympus TG-2 offers a very rugged body combined with good image quality, a fast lens, superb performance, a full-featured GPS system and plenty of fun extras. Downsides are few, which include issues with panning in movies, highlight clipping and...

Olympus Tough TG-2 iHS

The Olympus Tough TG-2 iHS rugged camera is a very minor upgrade to the excellent TG-1. It comes in at a lower price and walks away with our Editors' Choice award.

Waterproof to 50 feet. Excellent high ISO performance. Fast f/2 lens. Snappy performance. Accepts filters and conversion lenses. GPS and digital compass. Macro LED light

Lens could be sharper. In-camera battery charging. Lens movement is audible on video soundtrack

When we reviewed the Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS last year we found it to be one of the best rugged cameras on the market. It was a compact shooter with a fast lens that could shoot deep underwater, and survive drops, pressure, and extreme temperatures—and...

Olympus TOUGH TG-2

Olympus has a well-deserved reputation as one of the pioneers of rugged compact cameras. Though the company has been producing waterproof cameras for a lot longer, the popular TOUGH series was launched in 2009. The TOUGH TG-2 was launched in January...

Bright f2.0-4.9 stabilised zoom ; Built-in GPS and manometer ; Tap to control feature ; Accessory lens attachments

Poor high ISO noise performance ; No manual exposure settings ; Can't take stills while video recording ; No built-in Wifi

The Olympus TOUGH TG2 has a lot to recommend it for those who spend a lot of time in and around the water and want a quality compact to record their activities. It's solidly constructed and the tap control makes it easy to get along with in the water...

Olympus TG-2

Last year's best adventure cam gets even better.

The Olympus TG-2 comes with its fair share of quirks and problems. Yet it's very hard to ignore the impressive image quality that this compact, affordable, durable camera is capable of.

Strike Two

Very fast start up, comparable to my SLR. I have used over ten digital cameras in my life, and this is the fastest point and click. Fast start up and takes a pic right when you press the button, hardly any delay

This is my second try at buying this model. Took the camera to the beach, got it wet, submerged it just to wash off a little bit of sand for less then 5 seconds, and when I got home the buttons on the back did not respond. The same thing happened with...
