Olympus XZ-10 Review

The new Olympus XZ-10 is a pocketable premium compact camera featuring a 12 megapixel backlit 1/2.3” CMOS sensor and an ultra-bright 26-130mm equivalent f/1.8-2.7 zoom lens. The XZ-10 also offers a high-resolution 3-inch touch-sensitive LCD screen,...

The Olympus XZ-10 packs most of the features of the flagship XZ-2 model into a camera that's almost half the size and weight, at a more affordable price point. Despite using a small 1/2.3” CMOS sensor, it delivers decent image quality largely thanks to...

Olympus Stylus XZ-10

The Olympus XZ-10 packs an extraordinary amount of functionality in a small camera that is barely larger than an ultra-compact. It even manages to squeeze in an ultra-bright F/1.8-2.7 lens with 5X optical zoom and image stabilization.

Ultra-Bright F/1.8 lens, lets use lower ISO, Good lens sharpness, Uniform lens brightness, Extremely low distortion, Very good automatic white-balance, Conservative metering, Reliable autofocus, Built-in ND filter

Image-noise visible at all ISO settings, Hue not entirely natural, Custom white-balance not perfect, Slow shot-to-shot speed, Impossible to setup framing for video, Not exposure-priority, Incorrect histogram, Video recording lag

The Olympus XZ-10 is a premium compact camera which brings full manual controls and dual control-dials into an unusually small form-factor. The center-piece of this model is an ultra-bright F/1.8 stabilized wide-angle 5X optical-zoom lens that remains...

Olympus XZ-10

Why has Olympus put a standard size sensor in an enthusiast compact?

Fast AF performance, Excellent f/1.8 to 2.7 aperture, Very responsive touchscreen

Small sensor means so-so ISO performance, Average video quality, Screen very reflective

Olympus Stylus XZ-10 review

At first glance the Olympus Stylus XZ-10 looks like a shrunken-down version of the comapny's top-spec XZ-2 compact. But it's both more and less than that: this middling advanced compact is a curious mix of high-spec - thanks to raw capture and the...

Small size, wide aperture lens, decent build quality, physical control ring around lens, raw file capture has its uses, often good quality from small sensor size, built-in ND filter

Lens introduces visible softness, white balance can be off, some issues with lens column not retracting, reflective LCD screen, sensor-shift stabilisation doesn't benefit preview

Slender and stylish, the XZ-10 leaves a good first impression - but the trim design not only cuts the fat compared to the top-spec XZ-2, it also pulls back on some of the more advanced features more commonly associated with an advanced compact. There's...

Olympus XZ-10

With great features like a fast f/1.8 lens and slow-motion video, the XZ-10 will win the hearts of photographers who want a pocketable camera. There are some image quality issues though, and battery life is short.

Wireless flash control ; Impressively low shutter lag times and fast AF ; Art filters and photo montage for fun effects ; Fast f/1.8 lens with rotating ring to change options

Lens exhibits plenty of chromatic aberration ; Short battery life

In sum, the XZ-10 is a very nice pocket-sized camera with lots of advanced features, but it does have some image quality issues that could frustrate advanced photographers.

Review: Olympus Stylus XZ-10

Sturdy to hold; PASM modes; Offers F/1.8 aperture settings; Loads of image effects to play with

Small sensor; Tacky UI; Over saturated colours; Expensive

Overall, a study build and decent image quality makes this a decent camera to own, but it has its downs as well. While it offers PASM modes, with control on aperture, exposure bias, and shutter speeds; the 1/2.3" sensor does have its limitations....
