Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 is a versatile camera for those who want something smaller than a D-SLR, but its performance disappoints.

Shoots at true 16:9 aspect ratio. Zoom lens starts at true wide angle. Excellent LCD. Impressive battery life.

Pricey for a compact camera. Flash is too strong (though adjustable). Images noisier than expected. Some pincushion distortion. Noticeable shutter lag.

Pricey for a compact camera. Flash is too strong (though adjustable). Images noisier than expected. Some pincushion distortion. Noticeable shutter lag.

A versatile camera for those who want something smaller than a D-SLR, with lots of pro features and controls, but the images are noisy and you'll find the shutter lag irritating.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1

Expensive, attractively styled point-and-shoot camera offers multiple aspect ratios, but image noise is a problem.

The DMC-LX1 provides lots of advanced features, along with plenty of point-and-shoot capabilities. The aspect-mode options will also appeal to photographers who want to escape the ordinary, but the noise at higher ISO settings makes the camera unsuitable

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1

16:9 native aspect-ratio CCD; wide-angle lens; image stabilization; decent photo quality; versatile burst mode; TIFF and raw formats; 2.5-inch LCD.

No optical viewfinder; LCD difficult to view in dim light; no white-balance presets for fluorescent light; some image artifacts.
