Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20

Other features of the DMC-FS20 and the DMC-FS5 include internal memory and a 3.0-inch LCD for the FS20 and a 2.5-inch LCD for the FS5 - perfect for easy-to-see viewing of images. Furthermore, these models feature Intelligent LCD, which detects the...

Superb features and fine-quality images make this point-and-shooter a keeper.

Big, 3-inch LCD adjusts screen brightness based on lighting. Large, easy-to-use joystick for navigating menus. Improved Intelligent Auto mode.

Slightly muted colors in daylight shots. Wide-angle lens isn't as wide as on the Lumix FX series.

With the Lumix DMC-FS20, Panasonic pairs a generous assortment of features with quality images.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 First Impressions Review

Take a look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 As the headliner for the new FS-series, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 makes a daring entrance into an already packed point-and-shoot market. Panasonic launched the Lumix FS20 to service a broad audience of...

Attractive design -Optical image stabilization -Large 3-inch LCD -Easy to read menu system -Fast, accurate autofocus -Three aspect shooting ratios (16:9, 4;3, 3:2)

Tiny buttons and lack of main mode dial -Ineffective joystick control instead of a four-way controller -Lack of comfortable grip / handling that previous Panasonic point-and-shoots possess -Limited manual controls -Near-$300 price tag

Our first impressions of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 are that it makes an unexciting entry into the pocket digital camera market. It does, though, earn some major points for looks and a generous 3-inch LCD, optical image stabilization, wide 16:9...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 is the leading model in Panasonic's new FS range of compact digital cameras, which are designed to be a more affordable version of the popular FX series. The Panasonic FS20 has a 4x, wide-angle zoom lens equivalent to a...

Just like the FX55 camera that it very closely resembles, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 is a stylish ultra-compact that you can carry with you wherever you go. It's quite responsive with quick focusing, even in low-light conditions, although the burst...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 Review

Unboxing the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS20 was déjà vu: "Didn't I just review this camera?" As it happens, in a way I did, having recently checked out the FS20's sister model, the FS3.

Thoroughly impressive lens sharpness ; Wide-angle range more than most ; Good color, minimal processing ; Noise reduction, if don't mind it

Noise reduction, if you find it intrusive ; Battery life may not be enough for some ; Questionable flash pictures ; Too much price premium for too few upgrades

Good specs, good styling, and good images are all in the FS20's corner. So what's holding it back? In some ways, a case of high expectations for this most feature-packed of the FS models

Useless because I got no English menus. Panasonic support refuses to let me have English menus.

No English menu no useful support from Panasonic ; I live in Japan and Panasonic seem to have decided that they will not allow people to purchase a camera with English menus in Japan. This is not mentioned on the box in English so anyone who buys in...

Product Specifications

Simply set the 10.1-megapixel DMC-FS20 to iA mode and let the four Intelligent Auto functions team up to help prevent shooting errors. Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings. The 30mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with 4x optical zoom takes wider shots than an ordinary 35mm lens. This is helpful in small rooms or crowded places, for example, letting you fit more people into a group photo. There's also an Easy Zoom button on the camera top - just press it, and the optical zoom and Extra Optical Zoom instantly extend to full telescopic position. This quick zooming lets you catch even fleeting opportunities. With its two basic settings - shoot and play - the FS20 is easy enough for anybody to use. Panasonic has also minimized the number of fine settings that need to be made with the cursor button and easy-to-understand settings menu. The brightness and contrast of the large 3.0" diagonal LCD adjust automatically in 10 steps as ambient light conditions change, so images are clear, bright and easy to see day or night, indoors or outdoors. In High-Speed Burst mode, you can snap off a lightning-fast six shots per second. This makes it easier to catch the perfect action shot of a fast-moving subject.
