Panasonic Lumix FS5

The Lumix FS3 (8 megapixels) and Lumix FS5 (10 megapixels) are two small point-and-shoot cameras from Panasonic. Both cameras pack the latest Venus Engine 4 processor, optical image stabilization, 2.5 inch LCDs, good battery life and many scene modes....

Stylish and good build quality (metal tripod mount is rare!) ; Optical image stabilization ; Very good battery life ; Fairly powerful flashes for cameras this size (Especially FS3) ; Above average camera performance ; Very good LCD visibility ; Plenty...

Limited manual controls (certainly no manual exposure here) ; No red eye removal and movie editing features ; Face Detection needs a direct, clear view of faces to work nicely ; Flimsy battery compartment door ; Finer details (ie fabric lines) removed...

The compact little Panasonic Lumix FS3 and FS5 cameras are two which have much to offer with their small designs, nice point-and-shoot operation and great performance. Set aside their minor differences, both cameras have features which casual picture...

Panasonic DMC-FS5 (Black)

Great camera... for about 1 year.

This camera is compact, easy to take on vacations, etc. Pictures are good, except for quick shots like sports (it often doesn't focus in time). The movie feature is fun with the kids

The "black spot" showed up on our camera a couple days ago - the 1 year warranty expired today. It's not totally black, kind of grey. It's not as noticeable in outdoor shots where there is more going on in the background

I bought this camera after previously owning a 2 year old Advent MP8 (PC world own brand) digital camera. Imagine my horror to discover that the images from this Panasonic are no where near as good as the old camera. Images suffer lots of noise even...

JPEG aritfacts even at lowest compression ; Poor focussing in low light even with AF assist lamp on ; Image noise even on lowest ISO setting ; Auto Scene selector selects the wrong setting in most cases and is a gimmick

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FS5

I just got the camera on sale for $180 and so far, it's an okay point & shoot cam. There is no zoom during recording, which is annoying and no optical viewfinder. Image quality is not that bad. The manual is straightforward and settings are easy to...

Product Specifications

Simply set the 10.1-megapixel DMC-FS5 to iA mode and let the four Intelligent Auto functions team up to help prevent shooting errors. Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings. The 30mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with 4x optical zoom takes wider shots than an ordinary 35mm lens. This is helpful in small rooms or crowded places, for example, letting you fit more people into a group photo. There's also an Easy Zoom button on the camera top - just press it, and the optical zoom and Extra Optical Zoom instantly extend to full telescopic position. This quick zooming lets you catch even fleeting opportunities. With its two basic settings - shoot and play - the FS5 is easy enough for anybody to use. Panasonic has also minimized the number of fine settings that need to be made with the cursor button and easy-to-understand settings menu. The brightness and contrast of the large 2.5" diagonal LCD adjust automatically in 10 steps as ambient light conditions change, so images are clear, bright and easy to see day or night, indoors or outdoors. In Hi-Speed Burst mode, you can snap off a lightning-fast six shots per second. This makes it easier to catch the perfect action shot of a fast-moving subject.
