Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7 First Impressions Digital Camera Review

The DMC-FS7 is a new entry in Panasonic's Lumix line-up, featuring a 10.1-megapixel sensor and a fully automatic mode called iA - for Intelligent Auto mode - that adjusts every last setting without requiring any user input. Optical image stabilization...

With a retail price of just $159.95, this could prove to be a solid value for users who want the least possible fuss and bother when it comes to taking pictures, thanks to the sophisticated Intelligent Auto mode. While there are a few controls you can...

Overall image quality is also excellent. Exposure and colour reproduction are spot on, and auto white balance is reliably accurate. The lens is superb, with excellent sharpness even in the corners of the frame, and there is virtually no distortion at...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7

This review is for Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS6. I bought this camera after I dropped my Canon Powershot A510. I wanted something really inexpensive and something I could always carry (primarily to take pictures when and where I didn't plan to) to replace...

Flash weak for my liking (But cannot complaint looking at the price) ; While shooting indoors, try shooting 2 stops plus (Exposure value +2/3) I found I like this the best as camera tends to under expose ; No Aperture/Shutter speed control. This can...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7

Didn't expect much from this so I wasn't disappointed. This is not an expensive camera and I got it free with points. Compared to the Canon SD780 which costs $100 more, it competes nicely. The SD780 produces better images but not by much. This is...

Very noisy at low ISOs

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS7

An excellent little camera in it's class. What I wanted was a small light pocket sized camera which I could pop in my pocket and take photos of friends and places at clubs and pubs, tourist bus trips etc. This camera fills the bill nicely. I liked the...

The Menu/Set button on the back of the camera can be easily accidentally pressed when taking a picture. This is a nuisance when you give the camera to a friend to take a photo. The button needs to be a bit harder to press to make it less vulnerable

Product Specifications

Slim and stylish with simple operation, DMC-FS7 makes every photographer a good photographer thanks to Intelligent Auto. Panasonic incorporated Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots, comprising of four major functions (MEGA O.I.S, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection and Intelligent Scene Selector) that work together to provide the best possible shooting results every time. The two most advanced countermeasures against blurring - MEGA O.I.S (Optical Image Stabilizer) to compensate for hand-shake and Intelligent ISO Control to detect and suppress motion blur - are built into the FS7. The MEGA O/I/S conventionally has mode 1 and mode 2, and now it has AUTO mode to select the suitable one between the modes according to the zoom ratio being used. Both image stabilizing technologies have been further advanced in detection accuracy and correction effect thanks to the image-processing LSI, Venus Engine IV. In addition to these two paramount anti-blurring technologies, the Face Detection system helps the camera to recognize human faces and to focus and set the exposure automatically. Up to 15 faces can be recognized simultaneously. Face detection accuracy has also been increased, allowing continuous AF/AE adjustment even if a face moves or turns sideways to the camera. Not only that, the unwanted red-eye effect caused by the use of flash can be digitally corrected. The Intelligent Scene Selector of the DMC-FS7 automatically sets the appropriate scene mode according to the scene you're going to take from among the most frequently used scene modes, such as Portrait, Scenery, Macro, Night Scenery and Night Portrait mode. It now features an automatic backlight compensation function that activates whenever the camera detects that the light source is behind the subject. The Quick AF system allows the camera to keep focus on the subject while the camera is in recording mode even before pressing the shutter. The user can activate all of these useful, convenient functions by simply pressing an independent iA button on the top of the camera, which is newly equipped for direct activation of the mode.
