Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50K (Black)

It's not just attractive, it's smartly designed. A highly legible menu system with the occasionally helpful descriptor (under Aerial Photo, it cautions Please turn off the camera when taking off or landing ) plus a large joystick control make it easy...

Optical image stabilization; large LCD; solid build quality.

Mediocre photo quality; some controls too small.

A decent camera, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 is held back by less-than-decent photo quality.

Lumix DMC-FX50

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 has 7.2 megapixels and an optically stabilized Leica 3.6x zoom lens. It's features consist of a slew of automatic modes, including 18 scenes and a Simple mode that turns the FX50 into a point-and-shoot digital camera. There...

3-inch LCD screen ; Widescreen movies ; Organized menus ; Easy to use ; 18 scene modes

Boring design ; No zoom in movies ; Lots of noise in pictures ; Some features hidden (exposure bracketing and white balance fine tuning) ; Two-step aperture system ; Unreliable auto focus system

The Panasonic Lumix FX50 is an average digital camera with a few above average features and below average image quality. The camera itself has a 3.6x lens, optical image stabilization, and 3-inch LCD screen packaged in a bland design. Still, the chunk...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 Camera Review

The most noticeable feature on this compact camera is its 3-inch display on the back. This is a pretty big screen for a camera that only measures 3.9 inches wide and 2.2 inches tall. This helps a lot when trying to navigate through on-screen menus and...

The DMC-FX50 looks great with joystick controls and a large screen. The start-up time, shot-to-shot time, and the shutter lag are all up to par as well. The small buttons could get on your nerves, and if they don't the image noise might get to you. The...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50

Retailing for around $330, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 is a relatively simple camera that has some distinguishable features like optical image stabilization on the 3.6x zoom lens, a bright 3-inch screen, and the ability to shoot widescreen movies. The...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50

Panasonic today introduced the new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 7.2 Megapixel, 28mm wide angle f/2.8 Leica DC lens with 3.6x optical zoom (equivalent to 28mm to 102mm on a 35mm film camera) camera, featuring an Intelligent Image Stabilizer by MEGA...

"I hate this camera. I say it every time I shoot."

avoid.

It takes good video. It's easy to carry around and the battery lasts a long time.

The picture quality sucks unless very specific light is available - indirect, not too bright. There is no luminosity in low light and it gets washed out in high light. There is so much noise. This camera has just disappointed over and over.

Owners Opinion: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 (Renderdan, 14 Oct 07)

Its very hard to take unblurry un-noisy images with this camera indoors. Flash tends to blow everything out so there's no happy medium. The fact the zoom goes so wide is very useful, as is the large screen. Sound quality on the videos is bad, but...

No direct control over aperture or shutter speed. It all feels a bit hit and miss via the over-simplified scn modes

Owners Opinion: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 (kristaps, 13 Aug 07)

I have bought this camera for my wife, and to have a pocketable alternative camera myself. My wife is happy with it - the interface is very easy, it's small, and produces good pictures. There is nothing really to complain about, prints are great and...
