Panasonic Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55

Sheathed in a brushed-silver metal shell, Panasonic's $350, 8.1-megapixel Lumix DMC-FX55 is as elegant-looking as it is functional. Though not quite small enough to slide comfortably into a shirt pocket, this point-and-shoot digital camera combines a...

Super-bright LCD ; Capable image stabilization

In-camera help text not very helpful

The FX55 has a superb 3-inch LCD, but the screen saps battery life, and images weren't as sharp as those of the FX100.

Lumix FX55 – Anything But Illuminated

Built around a lens forged in the vaunted house of Leica, the FX55 is packed with a laundry list of features: an ultra wide zoom with twin mode optical image

Beautiful industrial design with superior Leica optics. Shoots in 3:2, 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. Sharp QuickTime videos

Menus are unnecessarily murky. Key functions like exposure compensation, flash adjustment, and delete require deep menu digging rather than direct access. The function dial makes mode changes slower than a tortoise full of rigor mortis

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 (Pink)

Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FX55 is a beautiful little camera. It has a clean, simple, and solid design that should appeal to most camera buyers. But in the world of cameras, beauty is only body-casing deep and it's what happens inside the camera that really...

Compact, lightweight design; wide-angle 3.6x optical zoom lens; optical image stabilization.

Mediocre image quality.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 is a cute compact camera that sports a nice wide-angle lens, but its so-so image quality keeps it from reaching its full potential.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55

In order for a camera to stand out in the overcrowded compact arena, it has to produce high-quality images and also offer some exceptional features. When it comes to the latter, the 8.1-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 shines with stylish design, an...

Big 3-inch LCD. Large joystick for navigating menus. Impressive autofocus implementation. Useful Intelligent Auto mode

Produces images with muted colors. Image noise is apparent even at low ISO settings

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 Review

The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 carries on the diminutive tradition of the FX series of digital cameras, measuring just 9.5 x 5.7 x 2.3 cms and weighing 143 grams. The FX55 squeezes in a 3.6x wide-angle (28-100mm) Leica DC optical zoom lens with a...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 is a stylish ultra-compact camera that you can carry with you wherever you go. It's quite responsive with quick focusing, even in low-light conditions, and an adequate Continuous mode of 3fps. Panasonic have focused on...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55 digital camera Review and Prices

At a $300-plus price point, you'd expect a lot out of your ultra-compact digital camera. Although the Lumix DMC-FX55 from Panasonic has some nice features, it doesn't offer quite enough power to justify its MSRP of $349.

Startup time is good, high resolution, very large LCD, good battery life, thin camera body, limited wide-angle capabilities

Low-light photos can be noisy, starting price is high, some response times are below average, zoom lens doesn't quite equal 3X

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55

I hope that makes your camera shopping just a little bit easier

Very good photo quality (by ultra-compact standards), though see issues below ; Wide-angle, 3.6X optical zoom lens ; Optical image stabilization ; Ultra-compact metal body, comes in three colors ; Huge 3-inch LCD display; screen visible outdoors and in...

Visible noise at lowest ISOs; noise reduction kicks in soon after, smudging details; some corner blurriness ; Redeye a big problem ; LCD resolution no better than smaller screens ; No optical viewfinder ; No metering option; more manual controls would...

Although it has its share of issues, I still came away enjoying my time with the Lumix DMC-FX55. It's compact, responsive, and fun to use. So, if you're after a camera with a big screen, image stabilization, and a wide-angle lens, then it's worth...

Excellent Camera, User needs to tweak

Previous Cameras were Nikon, Canon. One thing I found to improve pictures, set the camera to one or two stops under exposed. Increases saturation and improves contrast. Macro shooting among the best. Would buy this camera again.

Solid Construction, Good Controls, Large Display, Fast and Responsive, Small Size, Excellent Macros

Would have liked a grip

Great Point&Shoot camera, iA feature great, video too

I am so impressed with this versatile camera. The iA feature pretty much takes care of everything. A very easy to use, take anywhere camera. The movie mode takes great video in all formats, very impressive. So many people are surprised as to the...

Easy to use, iA great, movie mode very nice at 30fps

Would be nice to zoom in video mode , , :( , but still happy with it

Product Specifications

Say good-bye to complicated settings. Just turn the dial to iA and the camera will not only help eliminate blurring from hand-shake or subject movement, but it will also detect up to 15 faces and automatically select the focus, exposure and scene modes for the best results. Camera shake is the number one cause of blurry, out-of-focus pictures. That's why Panasonic Lumix digital cameras come equipped with advanced Optical Image Stabilization (MEGA O.I.S.) that detects even the tiniest camera movement, then automatically adjusts the lens to compensate. With MEGA O.I.S., you're ensured sharp, clear pictures every time without any loss of image detail or clarity. Thanks to Intelligent ISO, Panasonic Lumix digital cameras capture crisp, clear images even when your subject moves as you shoot. Advanced subject-motion detection circuitry senses when your subject is moving and raises the camera's ISO sensitivity and shutter speed settings accordingly. This suppresses motion blur and also makes it easy to shoot scenes with fast moving action. The Face Detection function automatically chooses the optimal settings to make sure faces appear well-lit and in focus. This advanced technology can detect up to 15 faces in a scene, and will even automatically readjust the settings if their positions change. In Intelligent Auto Mode, the camera automatically begins focusing even before you press the shutter button, so you'll never miss an opportunity for a great shot. With your Panasonic Lumix digital camera in Intelligent Auto Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector will sense the ambient conditions and automatically select either the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery mode accordingly. With the camera choosing the settings for you, you'll get beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the scene or subject.
