Panasonic Lumix FX8

The Panasonic Lumix FX8 is an ultra-compact camera with a very useful feature not found on most competition: Optical image stabilization. Other than that, the Panasonic Lumix FX8 also includes a 2.5 inch LCD, full-fledged movie mode and excellent...

Ultra-compact and stylish ; Great battery life ; Optical image stabilization ; Large LCD ; Extremely fast ; Unlimited continuous shooting ; Excellent movie mode ; User friendly ; Noise levels slightly lower than on FX9 ; Good photo quality

No manual controls ; Low resolution LCD ; Low FPS rate for "infinite shooting ; Flimsy battery/card cover ; Red-eye ; Some soft photos ; No movie zoom

The Panasonic Lumix FX8 is a great camera: 5 megapixels, a 2.5 inch LCD, great battery life and best of all, optical image stabilization. The 2.5 inch LCD resolution is still the same as on the FX7 but is a lot brighter. OIS is not something you'll see...

This little camera grows on you. I compared both the FX8 and FX9 before finally choosing the FX8. Although the FX9 has a high rez LCD, the screen on the FX8 has a wider viewing angle and overall it seems a better match for the image electronics. I felt...

With the gloss finish and small size, the camera can become hard to hold if your hands get sweaty. As with all compact cameras, the max aperture of the tele end of the lens is slow at only F5. Also, the aperture has only two stops: the exposure is...

A little jewel! I'm tickled to bits with the FX8, my 6th digi-cam. I'd decided to replace my faithfull old Canon Ixus 330 with the new Canon Ixus 800is, but they didn't have it at the airport, so I took a chance on the FX8, with a similar spec,...

Small, HQ made, stabilizer working ok, battery ok.

Very big noise on any iso ; Indoor image quality very bad- big noise, low bright (on LCD bright ok, but on computer bright low). In movie mode indoor quality picture bright is ok, but often exists vertical lines ; Violet color on objects ranges in...

The FX8 delivers consistently sharp and properly exposed images, based upon the nearly 500 photos I've taken with mine. Its sleek black-and-chrome appearance, coupled with its credit-card size, are attention-getters in themselves, and the camera's...

Big LCD, but not so many pixels and picture in it twitches moving camera around. Very good body (metalic).

We got it also couple of days ago. But I'm far from beeing satisfied about this camera ; Main issues ; extremely weak flash indoors ; when in auto mode weak flash results in settings autpomatically ISO to 100 and above. Noise level in ISO100 and above...

i've had it a week and found it to be a competant point-n-shoot camera, very impressed all round.

the screen is too low a resolution to be shown on a 2.5" screen, a problem fixed with the new FX9

Product Specifications

Panasonic is introducing the incoming Lumix model DMCFX8, a true heir to the world-renowned 5.0-megapixel 3x optical zoom DMCFX7 with MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), with substantially enhanced battery life. The DMCFX8 boasts high picture quality, large LCD, compactness and stylish design, all those desired for a compact camera. Not only that, the FX8 also incorporates the highly commended MEGA O.I.S. while extending the battery life over two times as long as that of the previous FX7, by increasing the included lithium-ion battery capacity by 162% and adopting the power-saving Venus Engine Plus. The DMCFX8 is the alluring stylish and compact model that carries all the favored advantages while overcoming the weakness of the FX7 to meet customers' demands. The 5-megapixel Lumix DMCFX8 is the slim and stylish model that incorporates 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35mm to 105mm on a 35mm film camera) Leica Dc Vario-Elmarit lens and bright 2.5inch LCD monitor. The combination of three aspherical lenses generates high optical performance while preserving the compactness of the unit. Power LCD mode offers 140% brighter backlighting to assure clear view even when sunny outdoors. MEGA O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer) that Panasonic thinks it indispensable for all digital cameras, especially for compact models that lack stability, is incorporated in the entire LUMIX line-up. Every slight handshake movement is detected accurately with the sampling frequency at 4,000 times per second and will be compensated to render clear, sharp images. By adopting the newly developed lithium-ion battery that increased its capacity by 162% and the Venus Engine Plus that consumes only 70% of the power Venus Engine II does, FX8 realizes more than two times longer, compared with the previous FX7 battery life to take approx.300 pictures. Newly developed CCD that adopts 9-pixel mixed readout method makes it possible to record beautiful full-size movie in VGA size at 30 fps while FX7 recorded in the size of QVGA. The CCD enhances the picture quality not only in the resolution but also in the brightness level of the image as it gains much luminous signals. On the sound front, built-in speaker lets you enjoy playing back movies with audio on the 2.5inch large LCD anytime, anywhere.
