Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ47

Editors' note: Several of the features, shooting options, and aspects of the design are identical between the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ47 and the Lumix DMC-FZ150, so portions of our review of that camera are used again here.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ47 has excellent features, design, and shooting performance.

For the $100 price drop from the FZ47's linemate, the FZ150, you lose a lot of features and get less-impressive shooting performance and low-light photo quality.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ47 is a very good megazoom for the money, but if you want more control over results--especially in low light--you'll want to step up to the Lumix FZ150.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ4S

Optically stabilized 12X zoom lens; solid color accuracy and detail capture; top-notch continuous-shooting performance; flexible feature set for enthusiasts and beginners.

Low-res, silent movie capture; some image artifacts; lens blocks flash in macro shots; tends to overexpose highlights.

It's a solid megazoom digital camera, but you might be better off with its 5-megapixel sibling, the DMC-FZ5.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ4 is a 4-megapixel digital camera with a high-quality Leica 12x optical zoom. The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 12x zoom is equivalent to a 35 - 420mm zoom on a 35mm camera with a F2.8 to F3.3 maximum aperture. Panasonic's advanced MEGA

Bottom line - The Lumix DMC-FZ4 will make an great choice for the family or tourist user, especially if you're shooting your children's sporting events. With its 12x optical zoom lens, you'll be able to fill the frame with distant subjects, and with its 4

Excellent camera for an Amateur in photography, vacation or family pictures.

Excellent Automatic Mode

-Not to good low light in automatic mode, but if you take your time to set the camera properly you'll get it right.

"A great camera with plenty of features for the price."

I purchased the camera after a lot of research on megazooms. After getting this camera I know I made the right buy. I got this camera for 250. That is almost half of the fz 150. To me, I did not think the extra features on the 150 were worth almost...

Great zoom

None, at this point.

"This camera is a BIG disappointment"

I bought this to take my daughter's pictures but it is really poor in quality. Yes, it zooms in but it can't get the clear pictures not matter what you use. POOR POOR POOR>

Zooms in right it just can't take clear pictures

The colors are not crisp at all. It also has purple outlining which kills any good pictures.

Product Specifications

The LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens is a small, lightweight lens that packs the same zoom power as a big, clunky 400mm-class film camera lens. This 12x optical zoom lens is super-bright too, at F2.8 to 3.3 with a focal length of 6 to 72mm (equivalent to 35mm to 420mm in a 35mm film camera). You've got all the power and flexibility you need to take exquisitely beautiful shots all the way from telephoto to wide angle and macro. The DMC-FZ4 also has a 4x digital zoom. Use it together with the 12x optical zoom and you've got ultra-powerful 48x zooming - roughly equivalent to a huge 1680mm lens on a 35mm camera. Jitter from shaky hands is one of the main reasons why cameras produce blurry images. Panasonic doesn't expect everyone to have hands of stone when taking pictures - that's why Lumix cameras help solve the problem of unsteady hands with advanced MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer technology. The DMC-FZ4 has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the Optical Image Stabilizer lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the CCD. You won't even notice it working - all you'll see are the outstanding results! You can take up to 7 images in Standard Mode and 4 images in Fine Mode with full resolution. In addition, the Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function lets you continue shooting until the memory card or built-in memory is full. All this is made possible by the Venus Engine II LSI. The multi-task image processing in the Venus Engine II LSI has accelerated response speed, giving you more comfortable shooting with a release time lag of 0.006 second minimum and a shutter interval of around 0.3 second minimum. Select the AF setting from Spot, 1-point (normal or high-speed), 3-point high-speed, and 9-point. The 1-point normal setting solves the "image-freezing" that used to happen while focusing on fast-moving subjects, and makes them easier to track. Focusing time of the 1-point high-speed setting is reduced to about 1/3 of the previous level. This nearly eliminates the time lag that often occurs with high-magnification zoom shots, letting you capture those great moments that happen all of a sudden. Plus, an AF Assist Lamp is provided to make it easier to focus in low lighting. The positioning of the control buttons and shape of the grip have been improved to make operation even easier than in previous models. Functions like 12x optical zoom and MEGA Optical Image Stabilization are still neatly tucked inside the camera's extremely compact body.
