Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40

The Lumix DMC-FZ40 is the lower-priced linemate to Panasonic's other full-size megazoom, the FZ100 . The two are separated by about $100 and a whole lot of features. Many of those features probably aren't deal-breakers for a lot of people, but one of...

Excellent feature set and shooting options for the money; nice design; great battery life.

JPEG photo quality tanks at ISO 400; menu system can get confusing.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 is a solid megazoom, but its low-light photos need extra attention.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 Preview

One of the latest cameras in Panasonic's FZ lineup, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ40 replaces the exceptional DMC-FZ35 and has a series of upgrades to consider. Resolution has been bumped up from 12 to 14-megapixels, the optical zoom range has increased...

Good design with nice layout of buttons, dials, etc ; Abundant shooting features ; Lots of options, both manual and preset ; Large 24X, optical image stabilized lens ; Great depth of field ; Menus easy to navigate

Image quality could be better ; lack of detail in low light situations

Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced non-professional looking for a feature packed camera to lug around on your next vacation, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40, with options galore, may be just the ticket.

"Fantastic Camera!"

Price for this camera can't be beat; bang for the buck is incredible! Other "name brand" cameras can't compare to the FZ40.

View finder very large, interchangeable lenses are very useful, long battery life, easy to read on-screen menus and a ton of pictures on an 8 GB SD card.

No problems after 6 months of ownership.

"Well-Rounded, Solid Value, Strong Performance = Buy It"

I have owned the FZ-40 for about 3 months I can safely say that it is extremely easy to use and it performs as well as cameras costing far more. I have taken more than 3000 pictures thus far and am very pleased with the results I have seen from this...

This camera represents an excellent combination of price & performance. It does everything well and it's extremely easy to use. If you pay attention to the compromises that the manufacturer makes to hit the price-point then you should end up being ver

Image quality suffers with decreasing light - but a tripod helps a lot.

Image quality suffers with decreasing light - but a tripod helps a lot ; Brand name batteries are BADLY overpriced. Panasonic is very proprietary when it comes to batteries so aftermarket batteries must be selected carefully to ensure compatability. Best

Excellent camera. Versatile and easy to use.

Overall, I would highly recommend this camera if you don't want to spend on a DSLR but you are looking for a camera that would allow you to fully configure your composition, giving you chance to fabricate creative pictures and not just take them. But...

Fully configurable composition (shutter/ISO/aperture/manual focus), stereo sound recording. Very quiet zoom during video recording, causing no interference with the audio recording. Good burst mode up to 10 fps

Panorama pictures stitching not within the camera. Need to download the pictures to pc, and run a software (provided) to stitch the single pictures together ; Also, I find the electronic viewfinder (EVF) to be not of the best quality, but still OK
