Panasonic DMC-LC5S Digital Camera Camera

The Panasonic LC5 is the same camera as the Leica Digilux 1, but at $799, it costs about $100 less and has a more modern exterior. Smaller capacity media and a thinner software bundle may in part account for the LC5's lower price--it comes with a 32MB...

Panasonic provides a much better user's manual for its camera than Leica does for the Digilux 1. Friendlier and easier to follow, the LC5's documentation includes labeled photographs and an index, albeit an anemic one

Panasonic LC5

The LC5 has a modern feel and an extralarge LCD screen, but image quality could be better.

Panasonic DMC-LC5S Digital Camera (Panasonic-DMCLC5S)

The same camera as Leica''s Digilux 1 in a more modern skin, the LC5 takes more evenly exposed outdoor shots. Unfortunately, it shares the Leica''s penchant for taking dark photos.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC5

Panasonic has developed a relationship with world-renowned Leica Camera of Germany, to incorporate Leica lenses in its entire 2002 Lumix digital still camera line. The top-of-the-line DMC-LC5 features a 4.0 Megapixel (3.9 megapixel effective) CCD imager,

Consumers shopping in this price range (above $700) and resolution class are those who want to capture large, high-quality images and world class memories of their family. If the camera fails to focus on the intended subject or the image processing fails

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC5

Panasonic digital cameras have never been a favorite of mine. They've always been an "also ran" in digital imaging, with their SuperDisk and Secure Digital cameras being very mediocre

Well designed body, nice fast lens ; Lots of manuals controls ; Robust performance ; Good movie, playback modes ; Included LCD hood a nice touch ; Interesting focus bracketing feature ; Supports for lens, flash accessories

Hideous photo quality (this is the deal breaker for me) ; Scrolling" in playback zoom & scroll feature is too slow

(Updated 8/10/02: Some people have pointed out that the photos look fine when downsized or printed. I am of the belief that you should have acceptable photo quality right out of the camera. The LC5's photos do look decent at 4 x 6 inches, but the flaws...

Owners Opinion: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC5 (Steve Swayne, 3 Feb 07)

Writing a review of a 2001 release date camera in 2007 is not for those thinking of buying one new. It is aimed at those thinking of buying one on the second hand market. Read through this review to see my thoughts. I was one of the first Australian...

Probably more as a result of where I have been with the camera and how much use it has had, but there is some corrosion on the body around the hot shoe area. The lens when opening and retracting makes sort of raspy noises, but still works okay ;...

My girlfriend bought this model because it had been marked down substantially. Examining the output showed why - the image quality is appalling. Don't be fooled by the first-time digicam owners who rave about this camera. The reports of extremely...

I confirm the availability of a new firmware upgrade for DMC-LC5. I'm waiting mine (it's a question of day). I'll tell you more about the improvement asap ... I think that, if image quality is better, there will be no equivalent of a such great camera...

I bought this camera 1 month ago. All the features are great except the quality of images. There s a kind of posterization. I just wonder if the prints will have any posterization at A4 format. In some reviews I found there s a possibility of firmware...

Except the posterization none

Product Specifications

A world leader in digital technology, Panasonic has developed an exciting new digital camera that breaks new ground in image creation. A digital camera is, first and foremost, a camera. Its main purpose is to capture clear, accurate images. But in developing Lumix, Panasonic took this concept a step further. The company's goal was not just to capture images accurately, but also to create the first-ever digital camera capable of rendering images with a beauty, subtlety, and delicacy that evoke a powerful emotional response in the viewer. With Lumix, Panasonic has created a digital camera that opens the door to an entirely new level of image creation. All of Lumix digital cameras are equipped with world-renowned Leica DC lenses to offer you the ultimate in digital photography. One of the Leica's most popular lenses, the Leica DC Vario-Summicron lens is now featured in Panasonic Lumix camera DMC-LC5S, bringing Leica's advanced optical technology to the world of digital photography. Thanks to Leica lenses, Lumix cameras can take digital photos that have the same emotional warmth, impact and subtlety as photographs shot on film. The DC Vario-Summicron lens features an exquisite soft-focus effect, vibrant colors and a general enhancement of nuance and depth. DMC-LC5S is equipped with a 3x optical zoom, capable of producing close-ups with amazing detail. The LCD screen on Lumix cameras lets you view your photos in detail before and after you take them. The built-in flash has an automatic setting, perfect for indoor use or in dim lighting, as well as a variety of manual settings, including "red eye" reduction modes.
