Owners Opinion: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC80 (GP321, 3 Aug 05)

I don't agree with the last review and my guess is that they haven't read the instructions on how to change the resolution of the pix. I bought the camera about 4months ago. Great results generally down to 1280res. haven't tried 1024. Easy to use,...

make sure you keep it covered (I used once in light rain and had water damage, seems fragile in this sense). It was cheap to fix though ; operation switch button replaced as it was "sticky" and hard to move, done during water damage service. Related?...

I chose this from a UK magazine review and am not disappointed. It was only available from Panasonic but reasonably priced at £175 inc. P&P. A shame that they could not have included a bigger capacity SD card. Camera feels solid and about the right...

No serious problems but so many pixels mean a susceptibility to camera shake. This Lumix model does not have an optical stabiliser ; Focus time from first pressure on the button is a little slow at perhaps one second

I have a 2MP digital camera but was getting tired of having little leeway in cropping pictures before printing them and still retaining acceptable image quality. I therefore was looking for a 4MP or above camera. Looking at the point-and-shoot type...

red-eye still a problem, just like with most other compact digital cameras

Review of the Panasonic DMC LC80 - Digital SLR Reviews

The Panasonic Lumix LC80 is a stocky and comfortable to use model, which offers an attractive package.

Product Specifications

The LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens on the DMC-LC80 follows in the Leica tradition of excellence. Although it is small in size, it has a large, bright aperture, meeting Leica's stringent quality standards. A Leica multi-coating process applied to the lens helps to prevent the fogging caused by flare, and ghosts that can result from excessive light. Even enlarged images captured by the DMC-LC80 are crisp and clear - right to the edges. At just 3.44" wide, about the width of a standard business card (but thicker), the DMC-LC80 puts a 5-Effective Megapixel CCD and a 3x optical zoom right in your pocket. You can even use the 3x digital zoom together with the 3x optical zoom to enjoy up to 9x zoom power. The DMC-LC80 can be powered by two AA alkaline or two rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. You can take about 160 photos with two alkaline batteries and they take up a lot less room in your camera bag. Since you can find alkaline batteries almost any anywhere, it's easy to pick up some spares when the power starts running low. MEGA BURST Consecutive Shooting feature allows you to take successive pictures at an incredibly quick rate, making it ideal for capturing fast-moving objects in high resolution. You can then view your shots on the camera's LCD screen to choose the ones you like and delete the rest.
