Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2

The very affordable Panasonic 4-megapixel DMC-LZ1 and 5-megapixel DMC-LZ2 feature a DC VARIO lens with 6x optical zoom (equivalent to 37mm to 222mm on a 35mm camera), with capability of up to 24x magnification when combined with the 4x digital zoom, and M

Optical image stabilization; solid image quality; versatile burst modes; simple operation.

Few manual settings; low-res movie mode.

Image stabilization, a 6X zoom lens, and solid image quality make this a versatile snapshot camera.

The Panasonic LZ2 promises a lot for under $300, and in the most part it doesn't disappoint.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 Digital Camera Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 is part of a brand new series of cameras designed to bring the benefits of long zoom and image stabilization to the masses. The newly released LZ2 has a total of 5.36 megapixels on its 1/2.5-inch CCD that works with an...

-affordable price tag -effective image stabilization -6x optical zoom lens on compact frame -fast burst mode at 3 fps

-no speaker for audio playback (have to export) -direct printing requires multiple menu selections -slow startup time -shallow right-hand grip

Panasonic is targeting a previously untapped niche market of consumers seeking extended zoom, image stabilization, and a fast burst mode on a seemingly point-and-shoot styling. Users can enjoy the automatic features without weeding through manual...

Digital Cameras - Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 is a pretty unique digital camera, there really isn't anything else like it on the market from any of the other manufacturers. It packs a 6x zoom lens into a surprisingly compact body, and throws in Panasonic's excellent...

Nice long (6x) zoom lens, Optical stabilization helps greatly for hand holding the camera in dim lighting, Despite oversaturation of bright colors, skin tones look good, Very good battery life, Accurate LCD viewfinder, Fairly fast startup/shutdown,...

High contrast, has trouble with harsh lighting, Bright colors are rather oversaturated, Images a little soft for a five-megapixel camera, High image noise at ISO 400, High barrel distortion at wide angle, soft corners in images at telephoto, Flash has...

Fairly quick on the draw thanks to a smoothly operating retractable lens design, the Panasonic DMC-LZ2 is a convenient point-and-shoot digital camera with a handful of extra exposure features for further flexibility, plus the added bonus of an...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ1/LZ2

With that in mind, this review will be a little different than most. I will be reviewing two cameras in one review, using the LZ2 as the "model" in the product photos. I will offer sample photos and some test shots from both cameras

Good quality, sharp photos (but see issues below) ; 6X optical zoom lens in a midsize body ; Optical image stabilization system ; Excellent performance ; Good continuous shooting mode ; Great battery life ; Histograms in record and playback mode

Images a little too sharp, leading to "jaggies"; some vignetting ; Redeye ; LCD doesn't "gain up" in low light ; No optical viewfinder ; Poor low light focusing; no AF-assist lamp ; Paltry 14MB of internal memory doesn't hold many photos at highest...

I like the concept of the DMC-LZ1 and DMC-LZ2 a lot. I just wish the execution was a little better (the LZ3 and LZ4, maybe?). The two cameras earn my recommendation, but mostly for outdoor shooting. Those taking indoor and low light shots will likely...

Owners Opinion: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 (BFM, 21 Dec 06)

This is quite a good camera, though lag times are on the high end. The Sony light sensor is its failing - The Sony light sensor has a VERY LIMITED life. For the Australian prospective purchaser - DONT!!! Panasonic are abysmal for user support. Only...

The use of the Sony light sensor makes this camera a dud

"Good Camera especially for beginners and intermediates"

This is my second owned digital camera. My first one (a kodak with no optical zoom) was great to see how much I would actually take pictures. I wasnt big into picture taking with 35mm film cameras. Well when I upgraded to this camera, I was blown away....

Optical Zoom at 6x for a camera this small

Owners Opinion: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 (Sarik, 20 Apr 06)

I'm pretty disappointed with this camera...especially when it received such stellar reviews. PC Magazine FALSELY said that it has a Leica lens. When I inquired about that (it didn't mention it in the manual) Panasonic said it was "manufactured to...

Jitter from shaky hands is one of the main reasons why cameras produce blurry images. Panasonic doesn't expect everyone to have hands of stone when taking pictures - that's why Lumix cameras help solve the problem of unsteady hands with advanced MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer technology. The DMC-LZ2 has a built-in gyrosensor that detects any hand movement and relays a signal to a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the Optical Image Stabilizer lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the CCD. You won't even notice it working - all you'll see are the outstanding results!
