Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1

A camera that not only performs brilliantly but is also one of the easiest cameras to use.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1

Thanks to Panasonic's new lens optics system, the 12.1-megapixel Lumix DMC-ZR1 ($279.95 direct) is the smallest, thinnest camera you'll find with an 8x optical zoom. And an upgraded image processor makes the ZR1 a speed demon with the best shutter lag...

Extremely fast performance. 25mm wide-angle lens with powerful 8x zoom. Terrific user interface. 720p30 HD video capture. Optical zoom enabled while recording video

Images are soft around the edges. LCD shows significant motion blur. Zooming is slow during video recording. Proprietary USB port

If you want a fast, powerful, pocketable camera that will keep you close to the action, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 won't disappoint.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 (silver)

It's always nice when a camera fulfills its promise. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1's unassuming outer shell doesn't stray from the company's other compact megazoom cameras, but what's inside does with a re-engineered autofocus system, an ultracompact,...

Simple to use; nice design; excellent performance, photo quality.

No AV output cable included; no shutter speed, aperture controls.

With a wide-angle, megazoom lens, a quick AF system, and generally high-quality snapshot photos, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 is a standout compact megazoom.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1

The 12-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 ($280 as of 9/15/2009) was a largely unnoticed guest at the fall camera announcement party, thanks to its great but not mind-blowing specs. This isn't a camera that tries to outdo anything in stores today, but...

Practically silent 8x optical zoom ; Very fast autofocus in video mode

No aperture- or shutter-priority modes ; USB-out is only connection option

The ZR1's very quiet, ultrawide-angle lens makes it an unassuming all-star for both stills and video.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 Review

Panasonic has followed this design path for five years now… so I guess you could say things seem to be working for the approach.

Quality: without doubt this camera can take above average snapshots that, when downloaded, print out with great clarity and vivacity.

Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1 camera

The DMC-ZR1's very quiet, ultrawide-angle lens makes it an unassuming all-star for both stills and video.

Its 8X optical zoom is on the higher end of the spectrum for a point-and-shoot, but a bit short of the 12X optical zooms we've seen from both Panasonic and Canon. Its basic specs are good: 29 scene modes, Intelligent Auto mode for no-brainer casual...

Good everyday point-and-shoot camera.

Compact, easy to use, easily fits into shirt pocket.. Quality of pics usually good. Video very good

Only camera I've had which has had problems with dust spots on the sensor, though Panasonic did clean the sensor for free even though it was out of the warranty period (by about a month)

"Good but struggles in low light & with moving objects."

Good compact camera but only when the lighting is adequate.

Very compact camera with 8x optical zoom which is capable of taking very good quality photos but only if the lighting is decent. Movie quality is reasonable too.

In low light conditions images are poor unless the subject is close to the camera....this may well be a con for all point & shoot cameras. Stuggles also with moving objects which tend to come out blurry. Flash can be slow to recharge.

Product Specifications

The compact body of the ZR1 houses a LEICA DC Vario-Elmar lens that ranges from 25mm wide-angle all the way to 200mm telephoto. In addition to its superb image rendering, the Leica DC lens lets you capture photos clearly without having to worry about hand-shake in all kinds of travel situations, thanks to the double corrective power of POWER O.I.S. as compared to previous models. Enjoy high-speed 1.1-second start-ups, AF speeds of approximately 0.27 second, and up to five consecutive shots at 2.3 frames per second with full resolution. You can also take up to 330 photos with a single battery charge (CIPA). This comfortable level of performance lets you capture even the most fleeting shutter chances. Simply switch to iA mode, and leave everything up to the camera. It automatically activates six detection and correction functions including POWER O.I.S., and lets you easily preserve your magnificent travel memories. The camera automatically arranges photos and movies using data such as the dates and locations of where they were taken. This makes it easier to enjoy your travel images in slideshows of photos and movies.
