The DigiBino 100 is a specific use camera with a pair of binoculars that are quite useable. The outdoorsman will find it a nice added feature to capture some of those glimpses of nature and the concert goer will come away with images no one else will. If

Pentax SMC

Because of the versatility, the very good optical quality and the good handling, this is my 'standard' lens. I won't do a praise hymn here but I can really recommend this lens.

Need a long distance digital shot?

Compact simple long range camera for very basic photos.

Results are very grainy, out of focus, blurry...not so hot.

Great little Macro for Flowers, Bugs, etc.

I have been shooting flowers and small animals for many years. I have used non-Pentax but high quality macro lenses, and extension tubes with good results. Last year I bought this Pentax 100mm 2.8 Macro, the Pentax ring flash, and the new K-7 body. I...

Sharp performer

For the most part I'm very happy with this lens. It's pretty sharp wide open and produces tack sharp images up to f11. f16 is good but by f22 there's noticeable softness. Diffraction kills this lens at what is a very useful aperture for depth of field....

A difficult lens to review

This lens is hard to review since it does have some significant weaknessnes so let me get those issues out of the way: 1) Not a good low light performer. Don't think you are going to set this up in a low lit room and a tripod and get the AF to...

Smaller than I expected. Fantastic results.

My first impression of this lens was that it was much smaller than the pictures make it out to be. Only about 3 inches long by 2 inches in diameter. But boy does it make your photos pop. I've been reading a lot of reviews about the new Pentax K7,...

Product Specifications

More than a pair of binoculars. More than a digital camera. The Pentax DigiBino DB100 is the world's first digital camera binocular. It is ideal for birdwatchers, outdoorsmen, sports fans or anyone looking to capture images electronically that are normally seen with a pair of binoculars. The DigiBino allows viewing distant images clearly with 7X magnification (equivalent to a 280mm lens in 35mm format), and with a 1/3 inch progressive CCD and 800, 000 pixels, gives you the revolutionary ability to capture what you see with high-level digital precision. Images can later be enlarged while still retaining impressive clarity. It achieves fast focus, even when using super telephoto settings, and achieves a level of precision equal to conventional binoculars, and also incorporates a handy 1.6 inch LCD panel for clear view of your subject and assists when composing shots for recording. The DigiBino provides more options after images have been captured, with the convenience of video output and versatile USB compatibility. With 16MB of built-in Flash memory, the DigiBino is capable of recording and storing up to 100 pictures in Fine mode. Also, all images can easily be stored as JPEG files. The DigiBino offers shutter speeds as low as 1/30 sec. for low-light subjects or distant scenery to 1/8000 sec. for wildlife or other moving subjects. The DigiBino's AV output adds more options for display by connecting to a TV. Manual focus allows greater control and makes it easy to place greater emphasis on any subject within the field of view. For added convenience, focal adjustment on the binoculars is linked with that of the camera. The DigiBino can be powered by two AA size lithium, or AA size nickel-hydride batteries and is also compatible with lithium CR-V3 batteries for further convenience - ideal for use when traveling. To achieve combinations of aperture and shutter that fit the subject, the DigiBino offers auto exposure, which gives the user the freedom to concentrate on viewing and composition. The DigiBino offers White Balance so the natural range of colors can be preserved when shooting in various different kinds of light. To capture instances of action, frame by frame, the DigiBino offers continuous shooting of up ten frames at five frames per second. The DigiBino is excellent for viewing and recording distant scenes and action. Its capabilities are appreciated up close as well with the viewing and capture of subjects just two meters away. Conveniently compact, the DigiBino measures 5.0" x 2.7" x 1.7".
