Pentax Optio 43WR

The Optio 43WR is a compact and durable 4.0 megapixel digital camera with a 2.8X zoom lens and a JIS Class 7 water resistance rating. The Optio 43WR remains watertight even when the camera is rinsed, splashed or submersed in water. The Optio 43WR is the p

Pentax Optio 43WR

The Optio 43WR has a 2.8x, 5.7-16mm lens, equivalent to a 37-104mm lens on a 35mm camera. A clear, plastic shield protects the lens at all times, so you don't have to worry about losing the lens cap, but the shield itself is exposed to fingerprints and...

Bought this camera one year ago. More than 2000 pictures. Overall satisfied with it. Easy to carry, and easy to use, good pictures at daylight. Good movie mode. SD card is cheap. I like its manual focus function, it makes me take flash pictures at very...

High noise in night pictures, battery life is not good enough

I love my Optio 43WR! dpreview gave me the information needed to choose my perfect camera. I am a fisherman and since the Optio 43WR is water resistant I don't have to worry about it getting ruined by water. The picture quality is great, especially...

The lens is covered by a clear glass or plastic to prevent damage to the lens but the covering is exposed to dust because of a lack of a non-functional lens cover. The clear covering requires cleanings every once and a while to wipe the dust away ; The...

I've had mine for 9 months but I fell off my mountain bike (actually, a spread eagle endo) while the camera was in my pack's belt pocket. Ouch! Now it just whirrs and doesn't complete its startup - NO FAULT OF THE CAMERA. I looked around for a new...

Problem 1: no lens cap. I'm not sure why other reviewers haven't picked up on this salient point: although you can get the camera thoroughly wet and still shoot photos, the pictures turn out poor if there's water on the front of the lens. It must be...

Got what must be the last one on sale in the UK and I love it. I needed a camera for those times I would not be taking the *istD out of it bag (rain, sand, dust, etc) and its superb. Image quality is a lot better than I expected though probably not as...

LCD is too hard to see in bright light. Wish it had Av mode

If you need the water resistance and don't want to go for housings or film cameras, this is the only game in town. This is my third Pentax digital (33L, 555, 43WR) and I remain very pleased with the image quality. If you do not specifically need the...

Ironically, the thing that this camera is best suited for (outdoors/damp weather) is the very one for which--other than the water resistance--it is least capable. The reason for this is the poor quality of the LCD and the poor selection of...

Well they said it was good for 30 minutes in water and I tested it. We rafted for 12 days in the Yukon, BC, Alaska and it survived all the silt, rain and rough water. On one day, it spent 15 minutes floating in a pocket of water before I discovered it....

If you're going for a long trip, forget the recharables and go with Lithium AA. A package of four outlasted 12 days of rafting and 4 days of mountain climbing

Dunkable, pocket sized, great pictures. This is a wonderful little camera. slip it in you pants pocket and take it anywhere -- the beach, out in the rain, boating -- and don't worry about damage. Remember, the best camera in the world is worthlewss if...

Product Specifications

Despite the rugged design, the Optio43WR captures delicate detail with 4.0 effective megapixels, while the 2.8X zoom lens (equivalent to a 37-104mm lens in 35mm format) captures both expansive scenery shots and tightly composed portraits without protruding from camera body. When combined with the 4X digital zoom, the optical zoom offers a total 11.2X zoom power with smooth lever operation. Go ahead and dunk the Optio43WR! The camera features a rust-resistant metal interior, rubber sealants, and lens protection that opens up a new world of photographic potential. Users may shoot in rain, in snow, by the pool, or on the beach to capture outdoor scenes and adventure. The JIS Class 7 waterproof rating confirms the Optio43WR will remains watertight even when the camera is rinsed, splashed and immersed in water (the Optio43WR may be immersed up to three feet for less than 30 minutes but should not be operated underwater). The Optio43WR features two new functions to ensure faster response especially for action shots. A Quick Start setting allows users to switch on the power within 0.9 seconds prior to shooting with the press of the shutter release button. In addition, a special Snap mode ensures sharp results from action shots with a release lag of just 0.05 seconds from one shot to the next. Additionally, the Optio43WR makes it easy to change modes by requiring only a single touch to switch from shooting to playback or back to shooting mode. A new high-speed CCD and innovative image processing circuitry in the Optio43WR records movies at the high resolution of 640 x 480 pixels that is higher than most digital cameras in a similar class. Movie quality has been enhanced with 30fps performance (double the conventional rate). Movies may be recorded to the full capacity of your chosen memory media.
