Pentax Optio M40

The Pentax Optio M40 comes with an affordable price of $200; it has little, though, to distinguish itself from other 3X-zoom, 8-megapixel point-and-shoot cameras (but perhaps we're getting a bit jaded). Its compact metal body feels solid and reliable....

Solid metal body ; Programmable shortcut button on the back

Poor image results with flash ; A bit dated looking compared to others

Not the jazziest-looking camera, the M40 earned its chart spot with a sturdy body and a low price. Flash shots looked drab.

Pentax Optio M40 Digital Camera - Express Review - The Imaging Resource!

Can a digital camera be cute and sophisticated at the same time? The Pentax Optio M40 certainly feels that way. Thin and sleek, with only a few controls, the Optio M40 isn't much larger than a Blackberry. It's the perfect companion for busy consumers...

Tiny size, very pocketable ; Large selection of preset shooting modes ; Good overall color ; Large 2.5-inch LCD monitor ; Face Recognition AF mode useful ; Digital Shake Reduction mode helps reduce blur in low lighting ; Excellent prefocus shutter lag...

High chromatic aberration lens distortion in the corners ; Strong blurring in the corners from lens ; Higher than average image noise, even at the lower ISO settings ; Anti-noise processing trades away subtle subject detail at all ISO levels ;...

Exposure remains under automatic control, though there are still a fair amount of creative options available to the user, such as white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, etc. Though the camera offers the standard 3x optical zoom, Pentax extended the...

Pentax Optio M40

The Pentax Optio M40 joins the dense market of sub-$200 digital cameras. The 8-megapixel Optio M40 carries the standard specifications that characterize this popular category: a 2.5-inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom lens. The camera boasts high ISO...

The camera touts a high 3200 ISO sensitivity setting with Pentax's Digital Shake Reduction system, offering more low light flexibility than the Casio Exilim EX-Z77, with an 800 ISO maximum, or the GE G1, with a maximum 1600 ISO. Pictures taken with the...

Pentax Optio M40 Review

The Pentax Optio M40 is a newly-introduced "ultra-slim, sophisticated metallic body" point & shoot (P&S) that is a refresh of the Optio M30 – the new camera gets a few more pixels on a slightly larger sensor, a higher resolution monitor, stronger...

Pentax has upgraded its slimmest pocket compact, but has it improved it?

Pentax Optio M40 digital camera

The Pentax Optio M40 updates the Optio M30 with a few key tweaks that include a bump in pixels from seven to eight million pixels on a slightly larger sensor, a better resolution wide-view monitor and there's improved flash output with a much improved...

Easy to use, good wide-view screen, nice design and build, good colour and metering performance, ISO and exposure compensation in most settings

Noise at all ISOs, pixel fringing, lens soft at edges, poor low light focus performance

The M40 is a nice camera, and that’s the problem, it is nice not brilliant. It looks nice, it handles nicely, and it’s nicely made.

Pentax Optio M40 compact camera

The sales blurb that comes with Pentax's Optio M40 states that its new camera is "a standard-class compact digital camera that is easy to carry". Talk about under-selling a brilliant product.

The Pentax Optio M40 has all the basic functions of an entry-level camera… and then some. But with its ultra-slim lightweight body and seriously good looks, a more than ample resolution of 8Mp and the ability to let you take complete manual control of...
