Pentax Optio MX4

Megapixels: 4, Maximum Resolution: 2304 x 1728 pixels, Included Memory Amount: 16 MB, Included Memory: Media Card, ...

Very affordable for a superzoom or a hybrid still/video camera. Unique look. Versatile, fun-to-use shooter. Rich feature set. Impressive video and 10X optical zoom.

No image stabilization. Slow to recycle. Still image quality at the low end of average for a 4MP camera. Some controls awkwardly placed. Uninformative menus. No optical viewfinder.

In addition to being fun to use, the Pentax Optio MX4's 10X zoom and hybrid video/still abilities make this uniquely shaped camera worth considering for those who want to shoot a lot of video with their camera. Those who will mainly shoot stills may want

Pentax Optio MX4

The second of the palm-sized "MX" series cameras from Pentax (as of 11/2004), the Optio MX4 captures both high quality still images and VGA (640x480) sized movies. It meets consumer demand to capture distant subjects with its 10X optical zoom lens, which

Bottom line - When we first received the MX4 we were hoping Pentax had corrected some of the weaknesses found on its predecessor. While it's capable of producing good quality 4-megapixel images, its promises are largely unfulfilled. Pentax claims it is "T

Purchased camera in Feb/2005. after using the camera for 4 months I am extremely happy with the camera. I continually to use features I didn't know existed. The only thing that I am displeased with is that fact the owners manual does not explain all...

Best value for money. It feels like a little DV (640x480 MPEG-4 with sound and no time-limit) , but with powerful features of 4MP digital camera. Also, easy to use (almost no need to read manual).

It's a tiny and elegant camera, so some parts seem to be fragile

While this wasn't my dream camera (that would be the Panasonic FZ20) this camera has sufficient features and was about $100-$150 less than most cameras I found with similar features. The supermacro alone is worth the $459 Canadian I paid for this...

The only real complaint I have about this camera is the long shutter lag time, and the narrow aperture and shutterspeed ranges. For sport/action photography, and long available-light exposures, I'm afraid I have to stick with my ME-Super film SLR. It...

In all fairness, I only had this camera about a day before I decided to return it. My quick decision was due to the fact that I had previously been spoiled by both a Panasonic FZ10 and FZ20. The camera is definitely packed with features for a fairly...

Main reaons for my quick turnaround ; Slow focusing in low...not dim...light. The Panasonics were also a bit slow, but this one was slower ; Slow-ish image write time. Again, I'm probably just being picky based on my experience with the Panasonics ;...

Product Specifications

A compact digital camera with a powerful 10X optical zoom and 4.0 effective megapixels, the OptioMX4 design captures both high quality still images and movies with telephoto capability. The OptioMX4 meets consumer demand to capture distant subjects with 10X optical zoom through a focal range covering angles of view equivalent to those of a 37mm-370mm lens in 35mm format. Comprised of 8 groups of 12 elements, the lens of the OptioMX4 features aspherical lenses and extra-low dispersion glass elements to minimize aberration. With 4.0 effective megapixels, the OptioMX4 has the power to achieve high-precision, vivid images at all zoom ranges. Perfect for capturing family activity, the OptioMX4 captures movies in MPEG-4 format and employs a streaming recording system to record up to two hours of continuous movies directly onto the recording media. OptioMX4 users further enjoy movie recording with 640x480 recording pixels at the rate of 30fps (frames per second) to achieve quality comparable to that of a television. The camera also offers a choice of movie recording sizes, quality and frame rates for maximum shooting flexibility. A stylish, functional palm-grip helps minimize handshake and reduces fatigue during long-duration shooting.
