Pentax Optio W80

The compact Pentax Optio W80 is waterproof, ruggedized, packs a 5x wide-angle lens, and can capture HD video.

Compact. 5x optical zoom. 28mm wide-angle lens. 720p30 HD-video capture. Fast startup and minimal shutter lag. Waterproof to 16 feet. Freeze-proof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Shock-proof to 3.3 feet.

Noisy images at ISO 200 and up. Visibly noisy video capture. Sluggish recycle time. Lens window protects against water and dings, but not fingerprints.

Pentax Optio W80 Review

Great features and excellent performance, but there was noise in ALL of our sample images. Read more in our Full Conclusion.

Water, Dust, Shock and Freeze Proof; 720p HD movies; Ability to Travel and Shoot where most cameras can't

Weak Flash; No HD output for HD videos; Noise in images at ALL ISO settings; Very Short Battery Life

Pentax Optio W80

If you need a point-and-shoot digital camera that's durable above all else, then the Optio W80 definitely deserves a look. The durability specs are better than most of the competition. But if image quality is more important to you than ruggedness,...

Pentax Optio W80 Review

The Pentax Optio W80 is a new do-it-all, take-everywhere compact camera that can be submerged in up to 5 meters of water, dropped from a height of 1 meter, and used in temperatures as cold as -10°C. Pentax's most water-, shock-, dust- and cold-proof...

The Pentax Optio W80 is an easy-to-use, tough as old boots camera for all the family. Built to withstand virtually anything that you can throw at in (within reason of course), only so-so image quality lets the W80 down. The 5x wide-angle zoom is a real...

Pentax Optio W80

Well priced and very tough, but the images it takes are merely average

Good image stabilization; Low image noise

Detail suffers at high ISOs; Not a fast shooter

The W80 is a decent camera, with a good set of features. But it’s not a great camera: we found that the images were somewhat distorted, and had only moderate sharpness. The colors of the captured images were decent, but the images had a significant...

Whether you're the rugged outdoor type or just accident prone, Pentax is aiming to make your life a little easier with the release of the Optio W80 compact digital camera. The Optio W80 is dustproof, waterproof to 16 feet, has an operational...

Pentax W80 Camera Review: Waterproof and Now Slightly Ruggedized

The Pentax W80 is their latest in a long line of waterproof cams that take decent shots, but have always been my favorite because of their compact size. This one is a bit bigger, but gains ruggedization and depth.

But I noticed the lens was a little too slow to capture sharp motion underwater where light is rarer than on the surface. (The first sample shot I took in dim light triggered the flash where other models didn't need one.) Colors and exposure was fine,...

Pentax Optio W80 – Review – 32

Design At a glance, the Optio W80 really doesn't look waterproof. It doesn't look particularly shockproof, either. But having left the thing in the sink (intentionally), it is quite clearly fine when dipped in water. It's also far sturdier than it...

Pentax - Optio W80
