Pentax X-5

In a nod to it's top-end K-5's styling, Pentax's X-5 looks like a DSLR but trades the APS-C sensor for a smaller 16 megapixel sensor and 26x manually operated zoom. Other key features include a 10fps burst mode, 1080/30p HD video capture, electronic...

Great camera, but not waterproof like the headline claims

This is a great camera, for a great deal, but this is not a waterproof camera like the headline claims.

Very impressed!

I had the Pentax X70 and X90 and was fairly impressed with both, marginally favouring the X70. I reckoned both cameras to be underrated by the experts, but not by most users. It was thus with some confidence that I bought Pentax's latest bridge camera....

Incredible value....

A great camera that has the best color capturing I've seen in years, takes AA batteries, mega-zoom, wide angle, built-in-flash, easy to use. An amazing value, I absolutely love it.

Pretty nice bridge camera for the price

I was reluctant at first to purchase this camera thanks to its small sensor (typically smaller sensors show more noise in the images), but, since it is a backlit sensor, similar to the Pentax Q (which I thoroughly enjoy), I decided to try it. The cost...

Pentax X-5 review

Set to impress the bridge market with a gigantic zoom range

Huge focal range ; DSLR aesthetics ; Plenty of auto options ; Manual mode

No AP or SP modes ; No raw support ; Requires 4 AA batteries ; Purple glare in some images

Pentax X-5 review

Line up these specs against the asking price for an X-5 and you'll see it's an absolute bargain. Naturally some corners have had to be cut to keep the price so low, but not to a degree that would leave a hobby photographer disappointed with the...

Long zoom ; Low price ; Articulated screen

No optical zoom when recording movies ; Some noise in flat colours

It's easy for forgive the X-5 its shortcomings when you consider what you're getting for the money. It costs comfortably less than £200, despite having the kind of zoom that would cost several thousand pounds if bought it as a separate lens.

Pentax X-5

Pentax puts a 26x optical zoom lens on its cheap and cheerful superzoom camera, along with full HD video recording and AA batteries.

Given the price, the X-5 is particularly lightweight and is made from plastic, so it's not as sturdy as some other (more expensive) superzooms on the market. Expect the X-5 in Australia from October in silver and black, and our full review will be...
