Samsung PL150 review

Samsung has been releasing an increasingly impressive array of cameras of late, and the Samsung PL150 is an example of the sort of innovation that is getting it noticed in what was once a relatively closed photographic space.

Second screen useful and fun, easy to use, style effects add some creative scope

Overall image quality isn't great, video quality isn't great

A pocketable and fun device that won't break the bank, but won't set the world alight when it comes to final image quality

Crammed full of fun features and effects; the dual LCD screens make self-portraits fun and easy

Images suffer from chromatic aberration and digital pixel distortion, uses a microSD card

The Samsung PL150 is a great compact digital camera bursting at the seams with features and effects.

This low-cost compact has two screens for the price of one.

(£123). Is that front monitor enough to make up the difference?

Samsung introduced the dual LCD system with the ST550 and it proved to be a success, as Samsung has unveiled a couple of new dual-screen compacts. The PL150 is a cheaper version of the ST550 which eschews the rear 3.5in 1152k dot touch screen in favour...

The PL150 isn't quite as good as the ST550, so we'd recommend stretching that little bit more if the second screen fits your needs.

Samsung PL150 review

What's going on with the Samsung PL150's lens? We're used to seeing some drop-off in sharpness at full zoom, but this is much more serious and undermines the value of the whole camera. That's a shame, because the PL150's twin displays, high-class...

Useful front-mounted LCD display ; Impressive styling and build quality ; Efficient control layout

Terrible picture quality at full zoom makes any other quibbles pale into insignificance

Conclusion The Samsung PL150's front-mounted LCD display is much more than just a novelty. It's actually very useful when taking photos of yourself, group shots or any other type of informal portrait. The camera itself is also comfortable to handle,...

Review: Samsung PL150

This shooter is an attractive proposition for those who want to try out the company's dual-screen system.

Front screen viewfinder; tilted base facilitates taking self-portrait without tripod; plenty of shooting modes

Uses the smaller microSD format which is easier to misplace; loud autofocus; annoying menu structure

The PL150 is another dual-screen camera from Samsung, but unfortunately it doesn't take better photos than the earlier ST550. For the lower price though, it's an appealing entry into this novelty market. However, we think that if you must have a...

Samsung PL150

One of the most exciting compact cameras I have ever tested was Samsung's ST550, with its massive 3.5-inch touchscreen and 1.5-inch front-facing screen for self-shooting (of the photographic, and not the Tyler Durden variety).

Samsung's PL150 is a 12.4-megapixel digital camera with dual LCD displays. It's an ideal pocket camera for a young partygoer. It has a front-mounted LCD screen in addition to the main screen at the back, so you can say goodbye to unflattering...

Crammed full of fun features and effects ; The dual LCD screens make self-portraits fun and easy

Images suffer from chromatic aberration and digital pixel distortion ; Uses a microSD card

We do have some quibbles about the design. Like the Samsung ST550 camera, the PL150 takes a microSD memory card, rather than a full-grown SD card. This will be annoying if you already have a collection of regular SD cards. A battery charger isn't...

Samsung PL150 Digital Camera

This is a small – almost dainty – digital camera that will easily fit in a pocket or purse. It is predominately black with certain silvered buttons and a grey band along the top and one side. I would even consider it stylish.

I was happy with the quality of both video and still modes. There was good depth of field and the flash images were better than what you see in the TFT just after capture that make everything appear very harsh however when examined on the PC all is fine
