Samsung HZ15W

The Samsung HZ15W is a camera that looks good on paper but doesn't live up to the specs. The main attraction is the 24mm-equivalent wide-angle lens with 10x zoom, which is certainly a plus in a camera this size, giving you a lot of shooting flexibility...

Good feature set; miniHDMI out; 24mm-equivalent wide-angle lens with 10x zoom.

Subpar photo quality; menu system too spread out.

The Samsung HZ15W has good parts and features, but it ultimately disappoints on the whole.

The Samsung HZ15W packs a 10x zoom into a very compact camera, complete with impressive image quality, 720p video and plenty of manual control.

Samsung HZ15W is part of the relatively new division of the point-and-shoot market, the compact ultrazoom. These squeeze significant zoom lenses into bodies only marginally bigger than a standard camera

Samsung HZ15W First Impressions Digital Camera Review

The Samsung HZ15W is a relatively minor upgrade to the HZ10W introduced just a month ago. The principal upgrades are an increase in resolution from 10.2 to 12.2 megapixels, a larger LCD display and built-in HDMI output. Both cameras sport an impressive...

Samsung made its first foray into very small ultra-zoom cameras at CES 2009 with the HZ10W. Here we are just two months later at PMA 2009 and they've already released an update in the form of the HZ15W. The upgrades offered aren't too significant, you...

($299) is a compact, ultra zoom camera that's designed to compete with the likes of the Canon PowerShot SX200 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3. It features a 12 Megapixel CCD, a 24 - 240 mm lens, optical image stabilization, a 3-inch LCD, and HD movie...

Good color and exposure; no redeye or purple fringing ; Compact, stylish metal body packs a 10X zoom ; Useful 24 - 240 mm zoom range ; Optical image stabilization ; Large and sharp 3-inch LCD display ; Good set of manual controls (though see below) ;...

Heavy noise reduction smudges fine and low contrast details and gives images a soft, fuzzy look, even at low ISOs ; Poor low light focusing; LCD difficult to see in those situations, as well ; Only two apertures to choose from in manual mode; manual...

If you want a smallish camera with a great zoom range, large LCD, and useful set of features -- and you'll be taking photos in good light and not making large prints -- then the Samsung HZ15W is certainly worth checking out. Those of you who want...

Samsung HZ15W

Samsung's most recent entry into the burgeoning field of compact ultrazooms comes packed with a 10x zoom 24mm wide-angle lens and a decent set of manual controls. While the camera is far too big to fit into your skinny jeans when you go out clubbing,...

One feature we really enjoyed about the HZ15W was the amount of manual control on offer. In addition to program mode, and a truckload of scene modes, it has fully manual exposure controls. However, you can only set the aperture in this mode to maximum...

10z zoom in a compact body, with impressive image quality and lots of manual controls

Sharp images; Fairly accurate color

High noise at ISO 800 and up; An overwrought menu system

Samsung HZ15W is part of the relatively new division of the point-and-shoot market, the compact ultrazoom. These squeeze significant zoom lenses into bodies only marginally bigger than a standard camera.

"Great Camera, Great Price"

The final factor for purchasing this camera vs teh Sony was that we already had several SDHC cards and didn't want to invest in MS Duo.

Have been using this camera for a few months now, and we love the pictures it takes. Also, the time between shots is excellent. The only camera's I found to be faster were the Sony's which were very much in consideration.

Agree with the revew that at times, finding where the settings are can be a pain, once you know where things are though, you'll never forget.

"All desired features in compact, easy to use camera."

I researched many compact cameras and was set on Panasonic ZS-3 but the Samsung was shown at store and seemed to fit my needs at $100 less. My recent Alaska trip with overcast conditions did not suffer from lack of detail with no flash. Many more...

Compared with Panasonic ZS3 at $100 more but Samsung has manual controls, 10X zoom, HD video and zoom. Easy, positive controls. Fast focus with minimal time delay. Feels good in your hand and not tinny. Great value and features.

AS amateur I have not explored all features but found no negatives so far.
