When I was looking for a compact camera, I was in doubt about Canon and Samsung, because the features of them. In this case, no other brand have so much features than Samsung. The S85 camera has a interesting manual mode (which you can control shutter...

Nothing is perfect, of course... The S85 spends a lot of battery, which may take some recharges during one day while you're learning how to use all the features of the camera. I use original GP batteries (2500 mAh) that use to last something around 2-3...

For a low cost point and shoot pocket camera, the Samsung S85 is an exceptional value. Good lens, very nice zoom and an excellent macro function. The auto focus does a good job, especially on faces, which my previous P&S camera had extreme difficulty...

The camera can be pretty battery hungry, but when using "Duracell" 2650 mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries or similar batteries I experienced good battery life. Some times focusing in low light is a problem, even with the focusing light.

I was planning to buy a Canon A720IS but then I saw the S85 for 99€ and bought it, to some extend the camera fealls light and cheap but when taking pictures I wondered how nice the result was. Some nice features: - Super macro - 5x Zoom - 4 Gb SDHC...

The only issue is the battery ; you need real good rechargeable batteries and a good charging kit ; ASR Image Stabilizer not very effective but then the flash is better then average ; My Sanyo 2300mA batteries work well when fully charged but I ordered...

The Samsung S85 is a high-resolution digital camera that is equipped with a true-color filtered 8.2 mega-pixel CCD. This allows the Samsung S85 to produce even better images and take detailed photos for printing up to poster size. In addition, the Samsung S85 has a 5x optical and 5x digital zoom giving 25x total zoom when combined. With the Face Recognition AF&AE function, the Samsung S85 enables the user to take better portrait pictures more easily. The function detects faces and automatically focuses on them; the brightness of the faces is adjusted optimally for beautiful portrait pictures. Fast ASR technology prevents the degradation of image clarity and color which is sometimes found in flash photography. With Fast ASR the effects of image blur are reduced in lower light conditions. You can even take well exposed, sharper pictures in low light conditions without using a flash at all, which guarantees brighter and more natural pictures. Even when camera shake has been eliminated, a fast moving subject can cause the image to blur. The S85 supports ISO 1600 high sensitivity to give you super clear pictures with just the right amount of brightness, even when taking moving subjects under less-than-perfect lighting conditions. The Samsung S85 has a 2.5" LCD with improved contrast and color reproduction for easy image framing and reviewing. With the Face Recognition AF & AE function, the Samsung S85 enables the user to take better portrait pictures more easily. The function detects faces and automatically focuses on them; the brightness of the faces is adjusted optimally for beautiful portrait pictures.
