Sony DSC-H10

The new Sony Cybershot H10 uses a powerful Carl Zeiss 10x optical zoom lens with Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization to capture action at a distance. The lens yields sharp, high-contrast images and reduces color fringing, even when shooting in...

The large, bright 3.0" Clear Photo LCD Plus display, and an anti-reflective coating provides for excellent visibility to help you compose, view, and share photos with superb clarity and color reproduction, even in bright sunlight

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 (Silver)

For the Cyber-shot DSC-H10 budget megazoom camera, Sony didn't change much from its predecessor, the Cyber-shot DSC-H3 . Only its 230,000-pixel 3-inch LCD is new, compared with the 115,000-pixel, 2.5-inch version on the H3. Given the lack of an...

Capable of excellent photos outdoors in good light; compact and comfortable.

No semimanual exposure modes; lens distortion; no zooming during movie capture; poor high-ISO noise profile; so-so auto white balance indoors.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 is a decent budget megazoom that can deliver very nice outdoor shots, but its photo quality falls short in other respects.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10

The Cyber-shot DSC-H10 was announced in late January and comes as a successor to the DSC-H3 which itself was only launched a mere 5 months earlier. The H10 only constitutes a relatively minor upgrade with the new larger 3.0" screen with its increased...

Reliable 'point and shoot' performance ; Good image quality in good light; bright, sharp images with immediate 'consumer friendly' appeal ; Powerful flash with slow synch mode ; Efficient image stabilization ; Good zoom range (although only starting at...

No real wide angle ; Manual mode only offers 2 F-stop settings ; Slow, unreliable focus in low light ; Only basic external controls ; Longwinded menu structure ; All-plastic body ; Non-standard video/USB connector ; Combined effects of noise and noise...

I mentioned in the introduction to this review that the only apparent difference between the Sony DSC-H10 and its predecessor - the H3 which we reviewed in January - is the size and resolution of the screen. So it won't come as a surprise that this...

Sony Cyber

As D-SLR prices continue to drop, we should see big changes in the superzoom segment of the digital camera market. Already, more and more compact, lower-priced models with up to 20X optical zoom lenses are hitting the shelves. At $299.99 direct, Sony's...

Large 3-inch screen. Can preview ISO settings on the LCD. Little noise in low-light shots. Sports-shooting scene mode for capturing clear, fast-action shots.

Faulty face detection. Flash shots are overexposed. No optical viewfinder. Plastic body feels a bit flimsy.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10's unique features are overshadowed by poor flash image quality and iffy face detection. If you're in the market for a budget superzoom, better, lower-priced options are out there.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10

If you can live without an electronic viewfinder, you won't find a better value in a compact super-zoom than the DSC-H10. The zoom factor is not as high as most of the competition, but 38-380mm (35mm equivalent) is still a lot of zoom. The advanced...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 Review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 is a fairly compact digital camera, which is no small achievement considering the 10x zoom lens it sports. It is, however, somewhat bulkier than its most obvious competitor the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5, due to the Sony...

Sony Cybershot H10 Review at Steve's Digicams

What the it lacks in size, it makes up for in performance. On start up it is able to capture its first image in less than 2 seconds, great for having the 10x zoom to contend with. There is virtually no shutter lag when the camera is pre-focused, and...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10 Review

Sony freshens up its popular H3 ultrazoom in the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H10.

Overall, with such a great lens, other concerns and shortcomings with the H10 make themselves that much more apparent.

Product Specifications

Sony offers high-zoom Cyber-shot DSC-H10 digital camera, a compact model that is ideal for parents looking to capture their families' memories. With its small dimensions, this model combines the performance of much larger cameras in a more convenient size. Small enough for a pocket or purse, the 8-megapixel camera is perfect for sporting events, school recitals and vacations, helping you easily capture close-ups, even from a distance. Designed to replace the DSC-H3 model, the DSC-H10 camera features a wider 3-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus screen for easy playback viewing and menu navigation. This model has a powerful Carl Zeiss 10x optical zoom lens and a long-range flash to help you capture details from afar. Its face detection technology can identify and focus on up to eight faces in a frame, and automatically adjusts the focus for correctly exposed photos. The high-zoom camera includes Sony's advanced sports shooting mode, which combines high shutter speed and continuous auto-focusing to help you capture fast-action shots. This intelligent technology allows the camera to quickly focus on fast-moving subjects by predicting where they will be in the frame - and ultimately reducing shutter lag. To help you capture well exposed, natural-looking photos - even in challenging low-light conditions - this model features high-sensitivity shooting (up to ISO 3200). It also incorporates Super Steady Shot optical image stabilization to reduce blur caused by shaky hands. The DSC-H10 camera incorporates Sony's D-Range Optimizer (DRO) to help you capture balanced images when shooting in high-contrast or backlit scenes. DRO modifies the range from highlights to shadows through its in-camera hardware processing - ultimately producing more natural, evenly exposed images. The camera also has helpful functions to manually correct images immediately after capturing them, including in-camera red-eye correction and photo retouching. For fun playback of family photos, the unit's built-in slideshow function helps create slideshows set to your favorite music choices. Up to eight songs can be uploaded via the camera's USB port. To view your favorite images and slideshows just like you view your favorite TV shows - in full 1080 high-definition resolution - you can connect the camera to a compatible HDTV set.
