Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 reviewed

That 6 megapixel DSC-H2 announced last month just pulled a righteous first-look review over at HardwareZone. The H2, remember, is Sony's prosumer followup to the DSC-H1. If you liked the H1, then the H2 is sure to please with its higher megapixel count...

Sony DSC-H2

Excellent resolution, good edge-to-edge detail, Great color, good exposure, clean sharp results, Accurate and generally fast focus, Low shutter lag, Superb handling, comprehensive photographic controls, Jog dial makes manual / semi-automatic exposure...

Some focus hunting at long end of the zoom (especially in low light), Images very slightly soft, Image stabilization doesn't seem quite as effective as competition, Small viewfinder (high resolution though), Screen smaller and lower resolution than...

We praised the H1 - Sony's first foray into this crowded part of the market - as not only a surprisingly mature, well-rounded product, but one offering performance and output that put it very near the top of the tree.

Sony Cyber-shot H2 Review

The Cyber-shot DSC-H1 was Sony's first foray into the increasingly crowded compact, image stabilized 'super zoom' market, and it was a very successful one too. The DSC-H2 (along with big brother the DSC-H5) arrived almost exactly a year later in...

Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H2 review

intro

12X zoom; image stabilization; decent selection of accessories.

Small LCD; large body; lots of noise at ISO 800 and above; no hotshoe.

The megazoom Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H2's long, image-stabilized lens should have the soccer moms drooling--as long as they stick to the lower ISO speeds.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 Digital Camera - Full Review - The Imaging Resource!

Like its predecessor, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1, the new Sony DSC-H2 digital camera takes direct aim at the Long Zoom Family Camera market, offering an impressive 12x optical zoom lens along with full manual exposure control, while not getting too...

Quite fast, good shutter response, very good shot to shot speed ; Image stabilization works well, is a great help with a long zoom lens like the H2's ; Better than average color accuracy ; Very capable movie mode ; Very fast multi-burst mode, great for...

Slightly warm skin tones ; Auto white balance had a hard time with household incandescent lighting ; Rather contrasty default tone curve ; High chromatic aberration lens distortion, noticeable in some images at the edges ; Image noise high at ISO 400...

The Sony DSC-H2's zoom is fast and smooth, not to mention quiet. With some experience and finesse, you can move the zoom either slowly or quickly, by varying the pressure applied to the buttons. If it's more comfortable in bright daylight, the EVF...

Like last year's H1, Sony's second generation bridge camera has a touch of the Flash Gordon about it.

Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 Review

Here is another quite good ultra-zoom from Sony. The Sony Cybershot DSC-H2, being very similar to the Sony H5, performs similarly. While it does produce useable pictures under typical lighting conditions, the H2 exhibits too much chromatic aberrations,...

Good exposure and focus accuracy, Generally fast and responsive, Powerfull flash and focus assist lamp, Excellent outdoor LCD visibility, Good ergonomics, Good battery life

High chromatic aberrations, Pronounced corner software, High image noise starting at ISO 400, Poor automatic white-balance indoors, Overly high image constrast, Unuseable above ISO 400

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 Digital Camera Review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 is one of the successors to the popular H1.  The H line of ultra-zoom cameras from Sony have proved themselves with their 12x stabilized optical zooms.  The H2 provides good image quality, easy operation, and a nice flash.

Nice long, stabilized 12x zoom, Very powerful flash, Good noise performance, Good image quality

2" inch LCD seems small (but keeps price down), Long flash charge time, Some controls a bit uncomfortable
