Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7

There has been a growing demand for superzoom digicams in recent months. Sony probably had this in mind when it recently introduced the DSC-H7. We decided to give it the works as usual. The overall build of the camera is quite simplistic, with a basic...

Excellent features such as 15x optical zoom and the remote control don't do much to make up for its other flaws. So if you're considering a superzoom, there are other cameras available that offer comparable features at VFM prices. The DSC-H7 is...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7

Sony changed quite a few details, inside and out, between last year's H5 and this year's megazooms, the Cyber-shot DSC-H9 and DSC-H7. An f/2.7-4.5 31mm-465mm 15x supersedes the 12x zoom on last year's, and the resolution kicks up a notch from 7 to 8...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7 has a relatively wide angle for a megazoom; tons of manual and automatic features; fast continuous shooting.

Small EVF; lens aberrations and vignetting; image noise and some processing artifacts; lacks hotshoe and raw file support.

If you shoot primarily outdoors in daytime--especially sports, children, and animals--the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7 is a good choice. The more expensive DSC-H9 has a larger, flip-out LCD, infrared shooting, and has a few interface differences, but is...

Sony DSC-H7

This mode combines high shutter speed shooting and intelligent continuous auto-focusing. The cameras can quickly focus on fast-moving subjects by predicting where those subjects will be in the frame. This predictive technology also helps to reduce...

The H9 camera takes fast-action shooting a step further. It sports a 3-inch, flip-up LCD screen so that you can shoot comfortably from nearly any position. You can hold the camera low to the ground for eye- level shots of kids, without having to...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7

Almost exactly 12 months after the launch of the Cyber-shot DSC-H2 and DSC-H5 Sony announced the replacement cameras; the DSC-H7 (reviewed here) and the top-of-the-range mode the DSC-H9 (reviewed at the end of May). That Sony chose to increase the...

Good resolution, great color, excellent exposure, accurate focus ; Bright, punchy results that produce pleasing prints without the need for post-processing ; DR-optimization works, though the effect is pretty subtle ; Generally very responsive, focus...

New user interface not conducive to quick operation, convoluted and often confusing ; Rear control wheel huge step backwards from the H5's 'turn and click' dial on the grip ; Images quite soft and not that clean ; Excessive noise reduction robs images...

The last generation of big zoom Cyber-shots (the H2 and H5) offered purchasers an interesting choice; two almost identical cameras with a $100 price difference that bought you a bigger, higher resolution screen and an extra million pixels. That the H2...

Cyber-shot DSC-H7

The ultra-zoom segment of the digital camera market is expanding as consumers seek more than the standard compact 3x lens and lust for the double digit optics. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7 will satiate zoom cravers with its 8.1 megapixels and 15x optical...

Optical image stabilization ; Rotary dial ; 2.2 fps burst mode ; 15x zoom lens ; Excellent color accuracy ; Strong handling of noise- Solid low light performance ; Remote control ; Speedy face detection

Zoom control ; Cluttered mode dial ; Poor LCD resolution ; Uneven strap lugs ; Flimsy battery door ; Lens hood shows in wide angle

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7 is yet another addition to the ultra-zoom market. This SLR-shaped digital camera comes with a solid set of exposure modes and an interface more reminiscent of compact models than SLRs. Many of the exposure modes and features...

Sony Cybershot DSC-H7 User Review

The recently released Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7 fills the place of the H2 and is the slightly cheaper version of Sony's flagship superzoom model, the DSC-H9.

31-465mm ; 2.5" screen ; High ISO 3200 (performance not the best) ; Video (640x480 @ 30fps) ; Variety of Effective Shooting Modes ; HD output / 16:9 picture aspect ratio

Menu system ; Lack of external buttons ; EVF small and bad in sunlight ; Adjustment of settings tedious on manual ; LCD bad in sunlight, not very bright ; Memory Stick (high prices comparatively)

The H7 achieves what I believe its designers set out to achieve, that is namely, create a point and shoot camera with a massive zoom.  The H7 is not a camera to get if you plan on delving into photography or plan on adjusting settings with any ease....

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H7

If you're tired of the standard 3x optical zoom lens that comes on most digital cameras but aren't sure you want to invest thousands of dollars in an SLR and lenses, you may want to consider an ultra-zoom digital camera. The 8.1-megapixel Sony...

The 15x optical zoom lens is designed so that its glass elements "float." These elements help to compensate for movement caused by shaking hands, ensuring blur-free pictures. Video is much smoother, too. The 15x lens comes with a hood to shade it...

Little expensive when I bought it but it worth every penny. It´s a shame does not include more memory cap.

Easy to use, great Zoom, Image Stabilizer works great for a Semi Pro Camera.

Product Specifications

Shoot dramatic close-ups and sharp fast-action shots with the 8.1 megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-H7 digital camera. The Carl Zeiss 15X optical zoom and Advanced Sports Mode with high shutter speed are perfect for crisp long shots and excellent detail when shooting at sporting events. Super SteadyShot image stabilization and high-sensitivity (ISO 3200) mode reduce blur when shooting without a flash and Face Detection technology brings out the best in faces. You can also manually control the exposure and focus of the DSC-H7, making it ideal for more artistic shots.
