Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600 - digital camera review

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600 - digital camera

Relatively decent low-light photos; reasonable wide-angle lens; extra flash reach; built-in neutral-density filter.

No video outputs; few manual controls.

Solid high-ISO performance and a relatively wide-angle view are among the features that make the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-S600 a versatile budget-priced 6-megapixel camera for casual snapshooters.

Digital Cameras - Sony Cyber-shot DCS-S600 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications

Attractive design, well-built and compact

Very "tight" optical viewfinder, shows only 80% or less of the final image area

The camera's AF illuminator helps the camera focus in dark conditions (even in total darkness), and works well with the Twilight scene modes. In addition to the 3x optical zoom, the S600 also features up to 5.2x Smart Zoom, Sony's current...

Excellent battery life ; Wide-ish 31 mm lens ; Powerful flash ; Above average performance ; Offers higher ISO sensitivity than most competition ; Unlimited VGA movies at 30 FPS ; Very good image quality; acceptable high ISO shots

No macro mode; minimum focus distance is far ; Terrible LCD resolution ; Tiny packed buttons ; No custom white balance ; Slow and limited continuous shooting ; Red-eye ; No A/V Out port

The Sony Cyber-shot S600 is an entry-level camera with 6 megapixels, a 2 inch LCD, 31 - 93 mm 3X zoom lens and excellent battery life.

Sony DSC S600

A straightforward no frills digital camera the Sony DSC S600 has six megapixels and a three times zoom lens. If you are looking for a Sony camera on a budget then this could be the one.

Value for money ; Picture quality ; Shutter lag ; Flash range

Macro ; No television playback

The Sony DSC S600 may not look that pretty but it is very effective. Taking its low price into consideration it offers excellent value for money. It is good indoors and has a very low shutter lag. Well worth looking at closely.

Review: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600

A good all-round entry level camera, perfect for beginners to the world of digital photography. For the more experienced photographers out there, it's worth a look too...

Extra long flash throw, lightweight and fast, good all round automatic picture performance.

Lack of AV socket, few manual options

The Sony DSC-S600 is a good value, all-round entry-level camera, though because it's been built down to a price it's unlikely to satisfy experienced photographers. But the well-chosen blend of features makes it an extremely good choice for general use...
