Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 (Blue)

With point-and-shoot cameras, it's rare that a high price tag equates to superb photo quality and/or fast shooting performance. You're mostly paying for getting all the latest features into a very small body that you can take anywhere. The Sony...

Speedy shooting performance; slim, stylish design; plenty of fun, useful features; very good low-light photo quality for its class.

Soft photos, videos; poor battery life.

The fast-shooting Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a slick, feature-laden ultracompact, but its price doesn't guarantee perfection.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7

Very high-quality 10MP stills ; Takes AVCHD video with stereo sound ; Nice wide-angle 4x zoom (25-100mm equivalent) ; Top notch 3.5-inch LCD screen ; Excellent touchscreen interface

Expensive ; Controls could be too small for some; definitely do a hands-on test ; Nasty digital artifacts above ISO 800

Sony’s pocket-sized DSC-TX7 shoots high quality video comparable to many camcorders, along with stunning 10-megapixel stills.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 Digital Camera Review

The Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a small, sleek point & shoot with touch-screen controls that takes 10.2 megapixel images and which can perform a number of other clever tricks, like great low-light performance and an excellent panorama mode.

Sony made some interesting choices with the Cyber-shot DSC-TX7. Rather than offering more megapixels, this compact camera offers a longer feature list. While other point & shoots are upping the megapixel count to 12 and 14, the TX7 actually takes a...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 Review

Sony has a reputation for incorporating innovative technology and sophisticated style into its T-series Cyber-shots - for a premium price, of course.

Stylish, solid construction ; Excellent performance ; Sweep panorama mode

Slightly soft images ; Overexposure ; Tricky to hold

As shown below, the TX7 produces sharp images with good color and virtually no noise through 200 ISO. Noise intrudes a little at 400 ISO and becomes a problem at 800 ISO. Shooting at higher than 800 ISO should only be done in an emergency.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a slim 10.2 Megapixel compact with a 4x optical zoom lens and a wide 3.5in touch-screen LCD. Announced in February 2010 alongside the Cyber-shot HX5, both models feature the same Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor which claims...

Large, wide, detailed and responsive touch-screen ; Very fast continuous shooting at 10fps ; Full HD 1080i movies with optical zooming ; Innovative and effective auto modes

Body design is hard to hold comfortably ; Aggressive NR delivers soft image quality ; Lacks long telephoto, but does have 25mm wide ; Proprietary connectivity

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a slim compact with a large touch-screen display and a number of unique features. The optical zoom may have an average 4x total range, but starts at a very useful and very wide 25mm equivalent, and can also be adjusted...

Sony Cyber-shot TX7

The Sony Cyber-shot TX7 is an ultra-compact point and shoot camera that is packed full of powerful features. To find out if the stellar feature list and spec sheet makes for a worthwhile camera, check out the review below.

As noted above, I was very pleased with the images produced by the Sony TX7. Sony does a good job with its in-camera processing, which makes for sharp and low-noise images throughout the ISO range.

TX7 is not what you think it is.

The Sony TX-7 sounds good on paper, however the camera is lacking in so many important areas. After one year of owning the TX-7, I'm currently looking to buy another camera. Which is a real bummer.

Size, weight, and the camera can snap pictures quickly

No viewfinder and most folks want to take pictures outside. Trust me, you can't see a thing and you end up just pointing and shooting and hoping that you photographed your target. Also, the camera doesn't do well in low light even though the "experts" ca

Product Specifications

The sleek and stylish DSC-TX7 offers a large 3.5" (diag.) touch screen to easily take and review photos. An advanced "Exmor R" CMOS sensor provides stunning low-light images and sweeping panoramic views with iSweep panorama mode. Plus, enjoy 1920 x 1080 Full HD video recording and playback. Capture decisive moments - like the ball hitting the bat - with the ability to shoot 10 images in one second at full 10.2-megapixel resolution. And by employing a mechanical shutter, distortion is reduced when continuously shooting moving subjects. This feature is ideal for capturing a unique sequence of images.
