Review: Sony DPF-D80

Stop in at your nearest electronics store this holiday season, browse through their selection of digital picture frames, and you may notice something interesting. Nearly every frame manufacturer wants to talk up all the stuff their latest frames can do...

Great design and build ; Easy to use ; Fantastic 800×600 display ; Simple slideshow device with no useless bloat

No A/V playback ; Price seems a little high

The DPF-D80 is a “one trick pony” among photo frames. If you want a frame that looks good, has a great display, and doesn’t get in the way of showing off your images with useless features or terrible menus, the DPF-D80 is a great choice. Using the D80...

Sony DPF-D80 digital photo frame

The trouble with a digital camera is that once you've downloaded the images on to your computer you rarely see them. They collect "digital dust" to be forgotten about. Sony hopes its experience in screens places it in the perfect position to offer a...

Screen, design

No Wi-Fi, no video or music support

The core job of the Sony S-Frame, to give you its other name, is to display images and in doing this the DPF-D80 excels. The screen quality is very good, however if you are looking for a digital photo frame that does more than just display images...

Sony DPF-D80 review

The unit feels solid and well-constructed, and it fits right in next to other techie gadgets on your desk. We tested the black 8in version of the Sony DPF-D80; this model also comes in 7in, 9in, and 10in versions, and in white and red variations.

We liked the fact that the Sony DPF-D80 frame can handle large image files (up to 100MB) and, incidentally, is equipped to deal with 48-bit colour - whenever that standard hits the mass market, that is. Our only quibbles were with the price, which...

Sony S-Frame DPF-D80 review

High-quality frame offers excellent quality photos in an attractive package

Luckily, this Sony S-Frame also delivers quality where it counts: with your pictures. Image quality is very good indeed, even if bright reds can look a little unsaturated.
