Great entry level SLR

As my first digital SLR very easy to use, good picture quality - and plenty of options to experiment. I'm looking forward to using it regularly. Live by the beach - and already taken a number of shots I'm proud of

Good Image Quality, Easy to use, Good image stabilization, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus

Great Camera!

This is a great camera. I was able to use it it from the start, easy to learn the basic functions. The battery life is less good but overall I recommend it!

Easy to use, Large clear LCD, Good Image Quality

Short battery life, Poor in low light

Canon EOS 1000D

Though Canon does have a very strong foothold in the DSLR market in India, there has been a gap that Canon hadn't catered to yet — the ultra-budget DSLR segment.

Shooting speed in burst mode was 3 FPS in JPEG mode and around 1.5 FPS in RAW. After a full charge, the battery lasted for around 660 shots (with and without flash), which is a little more than I expected. Overall the EOS 1000D is a fine DSLR for the...

Canon EOS Rebel XS

The little brother to the critically acclaimed XSi costs two hundred dollars less, but is almost identical in specs and build.

If ever a camera could overtake the D40 in the budget DSLR category, it's the Canon EOS Rebel XS. It offers fast speeds, an easier interface, higher resolution, an automatic sensor-cleaning system, and often-comparable (and always good) image quality....

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera

Canon's Digital Rebel XS is an excellent entry-level digital SLR, but advanced photographers may find its features too basic.

Excellent image quality ; Great entry-level features

Small, uncomfortable grip ; No spot meter

If you're a more seasoned photographer, you might want to shell out an extra $100 for the XSi. But overall, the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS is a great entry-level digital SLR, delivering a handful of advanced features and excellent image quality for a...

Canon EOS Rebel XS

The 10.1-megapixel Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS has just about everything a budding digital photographer could want in a camera: a wide variety of features and modes, excellent image quality, and an affordable price tag. The XS doesn't have as many...

Excellent image quality ; Great entry-level features

Small, uncomfortable grip ; No spot meter

An excellent entry-level SLR, but its more full-featured brother, the Rebel Xsi, outperformed this model in our tests.

Canon EOS Rebel XS

The EOS Rebel XS (1000D in other territories) is Canon's newest entry level SLR. Physically similar to the Rebel XSi, it offers 10-megapixel resolution, a 2.5" LCD and Live View mode. Priced at $699 with a bundled 18-55mm lens, the XSt impressed us...

Good low light and dynamic range score ; Access to a wide range of lenses ; Live View and strong automatic mode make it friendly for new users ; Decent results for an entry-level SLR

Plastic rather than rubber grips ; Average color and resolution scores ; Barely less expensive than the XSi ; Nospot metering

The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a decently priced, entry-level SLR that scored well across our entire panel of tests, especially with regards to low light and dynamic range. It has Live View mode to help ease point-and-shoot users into the more advanced...

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS SLR

With the lightest body of any digital EOS camera, the Rebel XS incorporates a range of technologies used in Canon's professional EOS-1 series cameras, including the DIGIC III image processor, and Live View mode. For straight-from-the-box shooting, this...

The 10.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor features larger pixels for smooth, low-noise images. This offers sufficient resolution to produce prints in sizes up to A4, even when cropping your image. To protect images against the effects of sensor dust, the...

Canon EOS Rebel XS With 18-55mm lens (Silver)

The baby brother to the Rebel XSi, the Canon EOS Rebel XS is the typical, almost-identical, but slightly less-powerful, version of that camera.

Excellent photo quality for its class; solid performance

Maximum ISO of 1,600; no spot meter; annoying, in-viewfinder, focus-point display

The Canon EOS Rebel XS is a good entry-level dSLR, but only its photo quality stands out among the competition.

Highly Recommended!

Canon EOS 1000D (EOS Digital Rebel XS)

When Canon launched the EOS 300D back in 2003 it was widely regarded as the first affordable digital SLR and secured Canon a seemingly indomitable number-one spot in the market. Since then the 'small' Canon has gone through three further iterations and...

Great results even with default settings; Good tonal response and dynamic range; Picture styles provides good control over image output (and prove consistent across models); Typical Canon CMOS noise-free images, remain detailed even at high...

Continuous shooting ability in RAW very limited (small buffer and low speed); Average automatic white balance performance, still very poor under incandescent light; Comparatively small viewfinder; Limited exposure compensation range (+/- 2.0 EV); Live...

Having helped create the 'affordable' DSLR, Canon has taken a while to respond to the latest, comparatively wallet-friendly offerings from the likes of Nikon and Sony.

Canon EOS Rebel XS / 1000D

The Canon EOS Rebel XS / 1000D marks a break from Canon's norm. Newly introduced Rebel DSLRs are usually the most feature-filled and highest priced models in the line - the Rebel XS / 1000D (Kiss F in Japan) was not. In addition, the Rebel XS...

The top of the XS shows a smoother, more rounded design than the XTi - more like the XSi. Gone is the silver ring around the mode button. Also like the XSi is the addition of an ISO button on the top - a very useful feature in my opinion.

Highly Recommended!

Canon EOS 1000D Review

The Canon EOS 1000D (also known as the Digital Rebel XS) is the new entry-level model in Canon's extensive range of digital SLR camera. The 1000D inherits features from both the more expensive EOS 450D and the older EOS 400D cameras. It has an almost...

Compared to the likes of the Sony A200, Nikon D60 and Olympus E-420, the new 1000D offers a little more, but for a little more money - the street price was hovering at around 450 / $700 when writing this review, significantly more than its main...

Product Specifications

With a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor and technology inherited from Canon's professional models, the EOS 1000D offers EOS imaging power in an affordable, easy-to-use package. For dramatic mid-action shots, the EOS 1000D allows continuous shooting of large JPEG images at speeds of up to 3 frames per second, until the memory card is full. With a card, this lets you shoot up to 514 images without a pause. A wide-area Auto Focus system uses 7 separate focusing points to lock onto subjects fast. The central focus point enables focusing even under low-light or low-contrast conditions. Canon's built-in dust prevention system guards images against the effects of dust in three ways: reducing dust generated inside the camera, shaking dust from the sensor each time the camera is turned on or off, and mapping stubborn dust spots for removal with the provided Digital Photo Professional software.
