Despite a few flaws, the Canon Digital Rebel XT DSLR proves age is nothing but a number.

Canon Digital Rebel XT

In 2003, Canon opened the floodgates for affordable digital single lens reflex (D-SLR) cameras with the 6-megapixel Digital Rebel, the first digital camera with an interchangeable lens for under $1,000 dollars. Now, the company has blown away the...

One of the best and most affordable D-SLRs available

Smallish LCD screen tends to wipe out in strong sunlight

This new Rebel XT has set a new standard for consumer digital single lens reflex cameras.

Canon EOS Rebel XT

At the Photo Marketing Association Trade Show in February 2005, Canon announced the highly-speculated 8 megapixel successor to the Digital Rebel. 18 months after the release of the original EOS Canon Digital Rebel, the Rebel XT improves upon its...

Much faster than predecessor ; Quick processing and recording speeds ; Sharp sensor and kit lens ; Small, portable frame - extremely lightweight ; Added manual control (custom functions) ; Improvements made to nearly all flaws on the original EOS...

Inaccurate viewfinder heavily weighted towards bottom of frame makes it impossible to compose accurate compositions ; Short body leaves right pinky finger dangling when additional battery grip is not applied ; Wish an ISO 3200 setting had been included...

Initially unveiled at PMA 2005, roughly a year and a half after its predecessor, the Canon Digital Rebel XT appears to be a real winner. Offering strong image quality, rapid shooting and processing speeds, and the ability to apply a range of Canon and...

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT (with 18mm-to-55mm lens, Silver)

The all-plastic Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is extremely lightweight for an SLR. Without a lens, it weighs only about 17 ounces. It also comes in your choice of a traditional matte-black or brushed-silver finish. The body is quite small, too, about a...

The Canon Digital Rebel XT's image quality leads its class; competitive price; ultrafast start-up time; very responsive.

The Canon Rebel XT's lightweight plastic body isn't ergonomically satisfying; no spot meter; limited continuous-shooting mode, unimpressive kit lens; 1.6X lens-conversion factor.

The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is an exceptionally small and lightweight camera designed for amateur digital SLR photographers, but it delivers the responsiveness and image quality you'd expect from a semipro model.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT

Megapixels: 8, Media Format: CompactFlash, Type: D-SLR, Maximum Resolution: 3456 x 2304 pixels

Fantastic range of features, including two auto modes. Superb burst mode. Great value.

Small LCD. Screen is hard to see in bright daylight. No TIFF support.

This versatile, user-friendly camera is a pleasure to use, and will reward those who want to explore more creative avenues without breaking the bank. It shares our Editors' Choice distinction with its big brother, the Canon EOS 20D.

Highly Recommended!

Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT

On 20th August 2003 Canon dropped a bomb into the digital SLR market with the six megapixel sub-$1,000 EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Eighteen months later and just in time for the largest trade show of the year (PMA 2005) Canon has revealed the successor...

Excellent resolution, a clear match for the EOS 20D, Good color, default +1 parameter set means punchy images out of the camera, Noise free 'silky smooth' images at ISO 100, 200 and 400, Very good in-camera image processing, JPEG's almost as good as...

Opening the CF compartment door shuts camera down, loses any buffered images, LCD monitor is dim unless you turn up brightness setting, New kit lens disappointing at telephoto with smaller apertures, Average automatic white balance performance, still...

So it's clear, the EOS 350D is a great successor to the EOS 300D, it puts right many user complaints, it delivers a smaller and lighter camera which feels better put together and delivers an increase in resolution.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT SLR

The 6-megapixel Canon EOS Digital Rebel came on the scene in late 2003 and instantly established a new category of "affordable digital SLR cameras" with a price of under $1000, including a zoom lens. It rapidly became the best-selling digital SLR of...

On balance, the new 18-55mm EF-S II is an improvement over its predecessor, and represents a good value for those moving up to the Digital Rebel XT from point-n-shoot digicams.

Product Specifications

Switch to the future with the EOS 350D Digital and take your creativity to a new dimension. Compact, lightweight and intuitive; delivering results to captivate the most discerning audience. The EOS 350D Digital employs Canon's acclaimed CMOS technology, for outstanding image quality and 8.0 Megapixel resolution. Always be primed for the next shot with responsive 3 frame per second, 14 frame burst performance and instant 0.2 second start up time. Powerful DIGIC II architecture taken from Canon's pro-series cameras ensures no compromise on sophisticated, effective and super-fast image processing. 7 auto focus points are distributed across the frame for fast, accurate focusing, even with off-center subjects. Lock focus before the shot with One Shot AF, or switch to AI Servo AF for predictive tracking of moving subjects - great for wildlife and sports photography. The powerful pop-up flash offers plenty of lighting flexibility. E-TTL II distance-linked flash reads lens distance information and ambient light for accurate flash metering: perfect for recomposed shots and difficult reflections. The camera is compatible with the entire EX Speedlite flash range, including the Speedlite 580EX, which transmits color temperature information for improved color stability. The EOS 350D Digital is compatible with more than 60 Canon EF lenses, including Canon's EF-S lenses. Before shooting, choose to optimize JPEG images either for direct printing or post processing. For ultimate flexibility, JPEG and RAW images write simultaneously. Canon's Digital Photo Professional RAW image processing software gives you post-shoot control over valuable RAW images. A USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface ensures rapid image uploads and fast direct printing. Once connected directly to any PictBridge compatible printer, simply hit the 'Direct Print' button for an instant print of the displayed image; automatically sized and correctly aligned. The EOS 350D Digital takes both CF and CF-II cards, including cards of over 2GB capacity.
