Canon EOS 7D gets high marks all around

Canon's EOS 7D is a pretty grandiose piece of image-recording equipment, whether you're talking about its size, features or price. You're probably aware of the...

If you can justify the price tag it's hard to fault Canon's new APS-C flagship. With class-leading image quality, fast operation and excellent handling the EOS 7D is everything a semi-pro model should be--and the excellent movie mode will be a welcome...

Class-leading detail and resolution at base ISO, good per-pixel sharpness, Very good low-light performance, low noise levels and good retention of detail, 8 frames per second continuous shooting speed, Thanks to Dual Digic 4 processors very quick and...

Unreliable white balance under artificial lighting, Slight tendency to overexpose in contrasty conditions, Occasional jagged lines in 720p video, No built-in AF illuminator

Review: Canon EOS 7D

Sport shooter looking to upgrade to a DSLR for not much money? Your camera is here.

Solid build and weatherproofing with pro-style feel in hand. Frame rate is sport-shooter ready. Wireless control of external Speedlite flashes. 8 frames per second in RAW makes us swoon

Noisy pop-up flash motor. Quick-control dial on the back of the camera takes more effort to turn than previous Canon models. Auto white balance in artificial light is bronze-medal worthy at best

Canon EOS 7D

Solid body ; Fast burst mode ; Versatile focusing modes ; Very good high ISO performance

Focusing not always accurate ; Could use more accessible focus controls

Canon’s EOS 7D digital SLR is designed for users who want fast shooting performance. It can shoot Full HD video, and if you mount it on a tripod and slowly pan across your shot, you'll get crystal-clear footage.

Canon EOS 7D

The Canon EOS 7D is one of the best midrange D-SLRs money can buy. But if you don't need comprehensive video features, there are plenty of cameras that produce comparable images for half the price.

Excellent still-image and HD-video quality. Fast performance. Various HD video recording options.

Pricey. Video recording is not as simple as with a dedicated camcorder.

Canon EOS 7D review

Canon basically ceded the entry-level pro performance market to Nikon in 2005 with the arrival of the D200 ; since then, Canon's 30D , 40D , and 50D have taken the slower but less-expensive road, with a relatively stagnant AF system, which Nikon...

Very fast; excellent photo quality; flexible autofocus system; big, bright viewfinder; streamlined interface; adds wireless flash control.

Single card slot; some annoying small and hard-to-feel buttons; limited to three shots for bracketing; Live View focusing still slow.

An excellent midrange dSLR, the Canon EOS 7D delivers for the money.

Canon EOS 7D

The Canon EOS 7D is without question, the best APS-C sensor-sized DSLR Canon has ever produced (as of this review date of course). And of course, "best" is a vague word.Let me use seven or eight thousand words to clarify that sentence.

The bottom line is that the 7D is Canon's new king-of-the-APS-C DSLRs - clearly the best yet.Though I would like to see sharper results at lower sharpness settings (set sharpness to "2" or "3" and don't worry about it),the Canon EOS 7D turns in great...
