Nikon D1 Review

Nikon's D1 has been around for over a year now, first officially announced on 15th June 1999, though we'd seen plenty of "behind glass" prototypes before then. I first got my hands on an early product D1 back in September last year.

High Quality, clean, detailed images Supreme build quality, unrivalled, all metal body, weatherproof seals The way it feels in your hand, "solid mass" All rubber foot plate Instant startup time Built around two of the best film SLR's around, the F5 and...

JPEG/TIFF artifacts thanks to poor in-camera sharpening algorithm (must use Low sharpening to get the most out of JPEG/TIFF) Pattern noise at higher ISO's more difficult to remove than random noise Lacking lower sensitivity (ISO 100?) D1's colour set...

The D1 is everything the professional photographer could need and a whole lot more, build quality is second to none, image quality is excellent with a few funnies which, as long as you know, you can work around.

Nikon D1 SLR

The Nikon D1 captures 2000x1312-pixel, 12-bit images using a 2.74 megapixel CCD (23.7 x 15.6mm) imager. Thanks to state of the art electronics and firmware it is able to process finished, high-quality JPEG images in the camera very quickly. For the...

Nikon D1 Review

The D2HS is a much better, faster camera with a much better battery system. The D2HS is the best cheap deal for shooting sports today; the D1 is more of a collectors item.

Nikon D1 Review Round-Up

The D1H is based on the original 2.74 megapixel D1 sensor but has a far larger data buffer and frame rate ability. Capable of shooting at a maximum of 5 frames per second for up to 40 frames, the D1H is clearly aimed at sports and current affairs...

Expert Review

After much anticipation Nikon has announced its first "affordable" digital SLR. This camera will, I believe, be the shot across the bow of the camera industry that leads to the wide-spread adoption of digital SLRs by the photographic community.

Nikon D1 Digital Camera Review

One area where the D1 is better than any other digital camera is speed for repeated frames. Sports photographers and photojournalists will love the fact that the camera can store 21 consecutive images in its internal memory. These may be taken at 4.5...

Nikon D1, D1h, and D1x Review

It's the image, stupid. Color fidelity, wider-than-slide-film dynamic range, low noise at low ISO values, and with the D1x, 10-megapixel output that works well with many subjects (something that just boggles the mind when you consider this camera was...

Custom Settings (original D1 only). Either learn to ignore em or bring a cheat sheet. There is no in between. (D1h and D1x) Too much button pressing, and no rationale order to the settings ; Battery Life. With a Microdrive in the camera and...
