Sony SLT-A77 II Review

The Sony SLT-A77 II is - as the name implies - an overhaul of the original A77, from from 2011. The A77 Mark II features a new autofocus sensor, and it's much more than a refreshed version of an existing design. Instead the A77 II is built around the...

12 fps burst with AF-C is useful for fast action Continuous AF is effective during still and video capture Face detection works well Good build quality and overall ergonomics SteadyShot is useful in both still and video capture Ability to record video...

Lock-on AF functionality is hit or miss Noisy high ISO images Heavy noise reduction in JPEG 12 fps mode offers little to no control over shutter speed and aperture Only 15 cross-type AF points, limited to a central portion of the frame No way to...

Sony is not a company that could ever be accused of not trying. Eight years on from buying Konica Minolta's camera business, Sony has produced more than forty interchangeable lens cameras based on at least three fundamental design approaches:...

Sony Alpha 77 II

The Sony Alpha 77 II has one of the quickest autofocus systems we've seen on an SLR and can shoot at 12fps, making it our Editors' Choice.

Excellent high ISO image quality. 12fps continuous shooting. Fast, 79-point autofocus system. In-body stabilization. Sharp OLED EVF. Excellent control layout. Sharp, articulated rear LCD. Seamless Live View experience. Built-in Wi-Fi. PC sync flash...

A little slow to start and shoot. Single memory card slot. No built-in GPS. Some photographers prefer an optical viewfinder.

Remote control is also supported, but it's very limited. The Alpha 77 II streams a smooth Live View feed to your phone's display, but you're only able to toggle the flash, self-timer, and shutter. There's no way to set a focus point or exert any manual...

Expert Review

We've not had long with the SLT-a77 II, so we're not in a position to form particularly firm opinions. That said, it's clear that Sony has kept a lot of what was good with the original a77 - including rather nice build, handling and ergonomics. These...

Sony A77 II

Sony Alpha 77 II digital single lens reflex camera : From dynamic sports to the sudden flutter of a startled bird: the new Sony A77 II stays locked right on target, frame after crisply-focused frame. Building on the heritage of Sony's much-loved...

Sony A77 II Review

Sony A77 II Review

The Sony A77 II hits most things right on target for a solid, high-performance, enthusiast-level DSLR. The image quality is very good, especially at lower ISOs and at higher ISOs from RAW, burst shooting performance is top-notch, and single-shot AF is...

Excellent image quality, especially lower ISOs; Improved high ISO performance when using RAW; Very good dynamic range; High-resolution images; Very fast single-shot autofocus; 12fps burst mode with C-AF; Good value for its class.

Lackluster continuous AF performance; Strong NR processing in high ISO JPEGs; Sluggish buffer clearing; Short battery life compared to most DSLRs; Joystick control easy to press accidentally.

The Sony A77 II hits most things right on target for a solid, high-performance, enthusiast-level DSLR. The image quality is very good, especially at lower ISOs and at higher ISOs from RAW, burst shooting performance is top-notch, and single-shot AF is...

Sony A77 M2 DSLR Review: Fast Shooter Great for Low Light

All in all, Sony's Alpha 77 M2 is a great camera that performs well in everyday situations. A large ISO range also makes it ideal for extreme low-light photography, while the translucent mirror system enables decent autofocus while you're shooting...

Tilt-and-swivel LCD ; Evenly exposed pictures with accurate color and sharp detail ; Wide ISO range for low-light photography ; Continuous shooting of 12 fps for up to 25 photos

Eye sensor too sensitive ; Overly aggressive noise reduction at high ISOs ; Poor smartphone Wi-Fi connectivity

Sony's Alpha 77 Mark 2 DSLR is a solid, fast-shooting camera that can do it all, but it especially shines in low-light settings.
