Digital Networks ReplayTV RTV5504 (40-hour DVR)

We bought the unit and it worked great. For a while. Suddenly lots of lock ups. Sent it back for a painful repair process. Never did work right after the repair. Liked the DVR experience, so we convinced ourselves that we had a lemon. We bought a...

Digital Networks ReplayTV RTV5504 (40-hour DVR)

I actually have 3 units, all the older 5000 series with commercial advance. The commercial advance is great, but not critical for my needs. However, I have my house wired for ethernet and the ability to stream from room to room is fantastic. I've had...

Digital Networks ReplayTV RTV5504 (40-hour DVR)

I actually have this unit, and prior had a Tivo whose internal modem died after 4 months. I have had no problems with this unit (Over 2 years now) and the quality and realibility has been more then what I expected.

Good Menu, Easy to learn, Remote Control-Hook up

Tivo has a better menu, Bulk

Blows away Tivo

For the most electronically illiterate the Tivo is a good choice. But for anyone who needs or wants more options, the Replay is without question a better DVR. While the Tivo has many crippled functions, the Replay is "full-strength" with commercial...

unmatched versatility

No hi-def version

It'll do in a pinch, but that's about it.

Can be added to home network very easily

No list of scheduled recordings. Very limited ability to find and record shows that air at a differnt day/time than usual. Using the list of recorded shows is a clunky feat

Too many problems for the money.

I purchased this system first, had terrible problems, just with the setup. Customer service was terrible, not particularly interested in helping, and would often have me do the same thing over and over. Finally got the system setup and loved it, but...

Easy to use

Terrible customer service, lots of bugs

Excellent 2 DVR inoperability

Initialization only requires an Internet connection unlike TiVo which requires a phone line and an Internet connection. Further, any ReplayTV unit can be played thru any other unit via home Ethernet. Any setting up to record can be made thru any unit...

Able to play programs recorded on more than one DVR on any other ReplayTV thru home Ethernet

Sometime requires a re-initialization for no apparant reason

We purchased our first Replay TV brand new from a retail store, when 3 months later it broke down. 6, yes SIX refurbished replay tv's later, (1 year) the company finally sent us one that WAS not refurbished when we threatened to call Consumer Affairs....

Great, if you can get it to work

Programming goes down every Sunday, must reboot

It will change your life.

I've had one for 4 years and recommend it to everyone. Check out this undocumented feature that TiVo doesn't have: hit a number and then the 30-sec skip button and it goes forward by that many minutes. Works with the 7-sec backward button too

Slow channel changing

Still Best Out There, if Only HD

Best Logical Interface, not cutesy. Networks in a flash, share, shows over the internet. Online software to move shows to your PC easily. BURN AWAY

Not HD. If it was HD compatable it would RULE
