Panasonic DMR-XW380 Freeview HD DVD recorder review

The recession is lingering and the demand for HD has never been higher. The perfect time, then for folk paying the likes of Sky and Virgin every month to ditch their expensive monthly subscription deals and save money by buying an all-new Freeview+HD...

HD picture, recording options, Gracenote

EPG, crowded remote control, price

If Freeview HD recording and all round digital know-how is your aim, there's nothing quite like the XW380. It's a veritable one-stop solution for a home cinema, albeit one that hasn't embraced Blu-ray - but it comes at a high price

Panasonic DMR-XW380 review

The Panasonic DMR-XW380 is a sleek PVR, and one that we think everyone will enjoy using. The problem is the hard drive is too small, it's too expensive and you can't save HD recordings to DVD.

Very stylish ; Easy to use ; Loads of useful features

High price ; Freeview picture quality not as good as some ; Small capacity

At £400, the Panasonic DMR-XW380 is £100 more than a 500GB Freeview HD PVR will cost you. What you're getting for your hundred quid is the ability to put recordings onto DVD, and, of course, playback retail DVDs. If you're in the market for a DVD...

Panasonic DMR-XW380 review

We've got to admit that DVD recorders aren't our favourite products, even when they have built-in hard disks. We've universally found them to be hard to get to grips with, and fiddly to use even when you have. We're hoping to report all that has...

Archiving HD TV or AVCHD footage to DVDs can be handy, but it’s a trick that Panasonic have overlooked here.

With twin Freeview HD tuners, a 250GB hard drive and DVD recording, this is a flexible device

Functionality ; easy to use ; 250GB HDD tuners ; solid, all-round performance

Too pricey in our book

Decent picture quality When you're recording, the PVR stores the direct stream on to the hard drive. Once stored, you can then edit the content or use one of a handful of ‘DR File Conversion' modes to compress the content into more manageable chunks...

panasonic - mighty failure

When this product arrived it surpassed my expectations, it was easy to set up and the up scaling was great. All went well for about about 8 months the problems then began the ubiquitous U99 error started to appear, the box would hang when in playback...

Disappointing and unreliable

I began having problems with the unit not working properly after only 3 months. After 6 months I had to take it in for repairs by this time I could not change TV channels and the unit would not allow me to set the timer for recording programmes.Also...

Panasonic DMR-W380EBK

Having read the previous reviews I took the advice given and did not enter my address or choose energy save when setting up. I also said no to the parental control. The beauty is I can record 2 channels at the same time without the need for any added...
