Great design, adequate in-built speakers, somewhat portable, line-out is useful
Slightly tacky construction, poor display, headphone output is mediocre
The Grundig GDR700DAB's retro design and decent integrated speakers make for a lovely DAB+ digital radio that evokes memories of old transistor radios. It may not be perfectly built and the internal components leave a little to be desired, but we like ...

Looks good, easy to use
No HDMI port, no upscaling to 1080p
The Sharp DVSL1200W DVD player looks good and is easy to set up, but its inability to upscale to 1080p and lack of an HDMI port make it unsuitable for people with televisions that have large screens or high resolutions.

Good DVD upscaling, 250GB hard drive, stylish design
No built-in HD tuner, remote control could be better
The Panasonic DMR-EX79 DVD recorder looks good and has an excellent DVD upscaler, but its remote control is not suited to watching DVDs and the lack of a high-definition tuner means it can't display or record HD content.

Fast signal acquisition, looks good
Can't pause/fast forward/rewind tracks, no optical audio out port
The Sangean WFT-1D DAB+ media streamer is stylish, and it can receive digital radio. You can also use it to listen to Internet radio and play shared media over a network. We were disappointed at the inability to pause or fast forward tracks, however.

Good Blu-ray movie playing quality, good DVD upscaling, nice design
No Ethernet port for BD-Live
Although the Sharp AQUOS BDHP21X Blu-ray player provides good image quality and decent DVD upscaling, the lack of an Ethernet port for BD-Live is a shame. Other budget Blu-ray players offer the same level of quality and better features for a lower ...

Excellent DVD upscaling, good picture quality, 1080p/24Hz capable
Cost, no BD-Live, USB port cannot be used for playing media
While the Sharp AQUOS BDHP50X is great at upscaling DVDs, its lack of BD-Live capabilities is hard to ignore given its price point.

Nothing particularly bad about it
Nothing particularly good about it
Teac's DVP221 is a small DVD player. That's about it - it doesn't do anything its competitors can't and isn't very good-looking. It does everything it professes to do quite well, at least.

Front USB port
No digital connections, no up-scaling
For the price, Teac's DV3131 is a decent machine. It can handle DVD video as well as a variety of compressed formats through USB.

Easy to use, great picture quality, remote scheduling, intelligent scheduling, no monthly fees
Small hard drive, ugly remote, many features still yet to be enabled
After all the hype and wait, the TiVo HD isn't the ground-breaking product it was touted as. It's got some nifty new features which we'd love to see widely accepted though and it's a worthwhile investment if you want a comprehensive electronic TV ...
