Kogan Blu-ray Player Full HD 1080P

QUALITY images and solid playback make this Kogan blu-ray player a great entry-level entertainment machine.

Clean interface, great picture quality, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD support, great up-scaling

No Blu-ray profile 2.0 support

Even though competing players are dropping in price, Kogan's unit under-cuts them while still offering perfectly acceptable build quality, a clean interface and great image quality.

Akai 15" Digital Photo Frame

AKAI'S 15" model delivers a good quality display and a responsive interface.

Comprehensive video format support, nice design, good quality display, responsive user interface

Glossy finish, hard-to-reach ports, no Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, useless calendar function, some poor video performance

Though there are downsides to this photo frame, AKAI's 15" model still delivers a good quality display and a responsive interface. It is simple, but that is all you need in a photo frame.

Tivoli NetWorks Radio

An innovative media streamer

By Campbell Simpson

THERE'S no need to sit at your computer to listen to internet music with Tivoli NetWorks radio.

Great style, easy to use

Ugly screen, mediocre sound

Thanks to the Tivoli NetWorks radio there is now no need for you to sit at your computer to listen to streaming Internet music. It does have to make a few compromises, however - in design and sound quality.

Teac DV221

A compact Teac DVD player

By Campbell Simpson

THE DVP221's size and low noise output mean it is well suited to hiding away in a cupboard.

Nothing particularly bad about it

Good size, low noise

Teac's DVP221 is a small DVD player. That's about it - it doesn't do anything its competitors can't and isn't very good-looking. It does everything it professes to do quite well, at least.

Front USB port

No digital connections, no up-scaling

For the price, Teac's DV3131 is a decent machine. It can handle DVD video as well as a variety of compressed formats through USB.

TiVo HD

TiVo HD has some nifty features

By Campbell Simpson

TIVO HD is a worthwhile investment if you want a comprehensive electronic TV program guide.

Easy to use, great picture quality, remote scheduling, intelligent scheduling, no monthly fees

Small hard drive, ugly remote, many features still yet to be enabled

After all the hype and wait, the TiVo HD isn't the ground-breaking product it was touted as. It's got some nifty new features which we'd love to see widely accepted though and it's a worthwhile investment if you want a comprehensive electronic TV ...

Akai L842DDFD

HIGH noise levels and poor blacks mean that unless you're on a tight budget it's best to look elsewhere.

Pretty good colour balance, decent detail in dark areas, low price tag

Extremely grainy and noticeable noise, poor black levels, some motion judder, only two HDMI ports

A basic, entry-level 1080p TV, the Akai L842DDFD will be fine for the undiscerning viewer but its very high noise levels and poor blacks mean that unless you're on a really tight budget there are better choices elsewhere.

AVLabs 11" Bluetooth Widescreen Digital Photo Frame

11" Bluetooth Digital Photo Frame

By James Hutchinson

ALTHOUGH it supports a wide range of video formats, a poor quality display lets this photo frame down.

Good format support

Poorly implemented Bluetooth, poor quality screen

The latest product from AVLabs should have plenty to offer in theory, but poor implementation and a disappointing LCD ruin the overall experience.

Panasonic DMRBW500

Panasonic DMR-BW500

By Andrew Kliem

THIS is a great addition to any high-definition home entertainment setup - if you can afford it.

500GB hard drive, dual high-definition tuners, Blu-ray writer, Viera link

Costly, minor bugs in the EPG

If you can afford it, the Panasonic DMR-BW500 is a wonderful addition to any high-definition home entertainment setup. It offers dual HD tuners, a 500GB hard disk and Blu-ray writing capabilities making it a perfect all purpose device.
